Drivetrain Your TOP SPEED, before & after mods?
Your TOP SPEED, before & after mods?
So I just wanted to ask everyone here if they have any idea about their top speed for MCS before and after their mods (tested in track of course). I'm aware that this would depened alot on the type of mods but was just interested to know. Mine seems to pretty much hover around 130-132 mph even after I have all the mods when I tested it in a track.
You would think that if 135 was the factory top speed listed that the number would be higher now after having done many upgrades including the bigger valve head.
There are few sites including Minis that suggest 2 different numbers for the top end speed of 128 and 135.
Hence my question about the before and after mods top speed.

What software do you have? If you aren't getting past 135, then the speed limiter has not been removed. Before I got my MTH flash, I hit the limiter at 135.
Some people here say the MINI has no speed limiter, but mine certainly does. Had plenty of gearing left, and the car was still pulling...and magically, at 135 it just stopped pulling suddenly and stayed there. MTH is supposed to remove the speed limiter, but I have not tested to see if thats true.
Oh and also, if you have smaller than stock tires your "top speed" will read higher because it throws off the speedometer.
**This was all done on a closed course of course....

I have stock run flats with 17" wheels, and no I haven't done anything to the speed limiter. Is this something that the shop can do for me or do I have to have them reflash it with the speed limiter delete?
If your question is in regards to the tune then the answer is it was a custom flash. And as for the shop? It was done by one in the city of San Jose. I can give you their name if you PM me.

no not realy, I just figured it was best to share that info in there rather than an open forum. But fwiw, it's "A&E Performance" in boarder of San Jose/Campbell.
Hard to test top speed. ALl the tracks I run on are not long enough to get much past 110. While I do live near some wide open spaces in TX even runnning in the Big Bend Classic one is not allowed to stray over a certain speed depending on class.
135. is the top for a spec mini s. anything over that is by-passed by the ecu tune or a new ecu all together. if they "claim to go over 135" either a speedo is out of calibration or the driver.
Wow, you guys must have been at WOT for at least a couple of miles because it takes me about 1.5 miles at WOT to reach a tad below 135 with all my mods.
I know I am slightly faster than an 05' JCW which is basically a GP; even if my top speed limiter was removed, I think it would be damn hard to get up to 150. Is the GP substantially more aerodynamic than a normal MCS?

What do you guess your top speed is on your current MCS is rustyboy?
I remember an old thread back on MC2 that had the gear ratios of the older 2002-2004 MCS's and the theoritical 6th gear top speed at redline (they used 6950 rpm) was 163 mph.

Well since he's using the JCW software, it should be around 140. Doesn't matter what his horsepower is since the even the JCW software is speed limited supposedly. Once the limiter is removed it would be up to the gearing of the car as to what he can reach, because he certainly won't be limited by not enough horsepower!

I'd guess my last car probably could have hit 175 before finally maxing out.
My current car has the stock JCW software on it, it's been topped out at the limiter, which I believe is 134 (hard to read exactly at that speed).
Eventually i'll have an 8500 RPM redline, and no limiter, so I anticipate a top speed of about 165.
There is no speed limiter. What are you talking boys? :/
Top speed of the 02-04 MINI is in 5th gear at the 6950 and that is 218 km/h. When you put in six, there isn't enough power to accelerate the car.
I have gone with my 02 240km/h in the slope, so like you see there is no limiter if the car go faster than "yours" 135mph.
218 km/h is 136,25mph.
240 km/h is 150mph.

I have no idea what you're talking about with the car not being able to pull in 6th gear. My car has MORE than enough power to accelerate in 6th gear. My car pulls from 35 MPH to about 140 (Tested with MTH software and without the head/injectors) and keeps pulling hard in 6th.
