J&S Knock Gaurd

First Yes I know we have a free one in the ECU and its controlled by ****'s and is even willing to let the terrorists win. However anyone ever entertain removing or greatly reducing it thru ECU flash and using a J&S Knock Gaurd to control how much timming is removed and how it detects? Just wondering as our Knock gaurd/Timming thing in our ECU seems to be a major source of hidden HP. this is based off of my short time on this board and short time owning a MINI (1 Month).

Just wondering. Plus it would be nice to monitor when the Car pulls timing.

My understanding is that most MINI engines knock on 91 octane even completely stock. I can't imagine completely removing the anti-knock features from the engine. I think the ECU can dial out 7 degrees of timing, much past that and you start hitting valves on stuff. I can't imagine you'd make any more than 10-12 HP from the timing retardation. If you want to make power, run the highest octane you can find. I always laugh my *** off when I see people trying to put 87 octane gas in their 25k dollar sports coupe they just spent 400 dollars on to install a pulley. They'd probably make as much HP back by switching to premium fuel as they would by installing a pulley .

I never run that crap only on the focus before i sold it cause the ecu was stock and anything above 87 would be spending more money to reduce performance and carbon coat my exhaust system. Also not to cause a ripple effect resulting in a flame war but Ive been told CHevron w/ techron is the best. Actually I hear techron is the best fuel additive out there.
