Drivetrain New exhaust system from Stebro
FYI: Stebro (click for their website) has released an exhaust for the new MINI. For those who have never heard of Stebro, it's a company that has been building high performance, stainless exhaust systems since 1956 and has quite a reputation in both racing and aftermarket. They are well known for their exhaust systems for Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, BMW, and other euro imports. All of their exhaust systems have a lifetime warranty. The full Cooper S exhaust is a two piece system. The optional front section houses a resonator and for more improved sound quality. No Dyno charts yet, but quoted horsepower increase is +12, with a slight increase in torque. HP/torque are unaffected by the resonator.
Sorry, I don't have access to any sound clips, but was told it is not as loud as the Magnaflow. I will be installing this weekend and have heard the Magnaflo, Quicksilver, Borla, Supersprint and Supertrapp in person, so I will let you know how the Stebro compares.
Prices for the Cooper S system at the time of this post were $645 for the silencers/tips section (the mandatory part). And $225 for the optional resonator section. HP is unaffected by the resonator.

Orb,
Great info, thanks for the post.
The 1st aftermarket exhaust I ever purchased was a stebro for my Austin Healey 3000. It was extremely well built and added a nice...for lack of better word "deep british sports car tone" to the car. The pipes came out the side of the car...under the back part of the drivers door...just on front of the rear wheel. It was loud, but I was 20.... so it was more fun & cool..... than loud...then .
I'm curious to hear the sound volume of this one, and the possible drone that it might/might-not produce ????
My 1st reaction to the pic is that its seems very magnaflow/borla/uuc-esque in it's styling.
The JCworks system has a more..."curved" pipe style at the rear of the system, which may or maynot address the volume/drone issue.
Dunno????..just an observation
Also...it seems if you opt to NOT buy the resonator....some cutting of the orig stock system will be involved????
Please keep us informed
Peace,
D

That seems like a lot of money to me for what you are getting. If I'm paying close to 900 for a cat abck exhaust then I would at least expect the company to take the time and polish the damn thing. The tips do look nice but it really doesn't blow me away cause well tips are just tips, they aren't going to make HP...personally I think the magnaflow is the best out there for the money

Got it installed!! Let me say this:
It sounds great. After getting the pulley done, mostly what I could hear beyond 4000 RPM was the supercharger whine. The Stebro system has changed that. It is louder than the stock system while at cruising speed, though not annoyingly loud. but it is much more angry sounding which is a good thing. I did not notice any droning (had it up to 70mph today). When stomped on it really lets you know and with the windows open I even heard it echoing off a building next to me while I was hard on the gas.
It is not a lightweight... about 38lbs, but still shaves about 9lbs off versus the behemoth stock system at 47lbs (used a bathroon scale so don't complain if the numbers are off a little). As a comparison, I'd say it's most like the Borla at idle and cruising and possibly as loud as the Magnaflow while at WOT. I've posted links to a couple of soundclips that I recorded with my MP3 player that has a crude "voice recording" feature. It records in a highly compressed format so the quality is not too great, though I've converted them to wav files here:
Exterior
Interior (rear seats up and "privacy shelf" in place)
The tips are 3" and almost flush with the outlet.

I tried to get a decent shot of the underside, but didn't think about it until I had already gotten the MINI off the jack stands. Notice the aluminum plate that normally goes under the battery box is gone. It wouldn't fit. Hopefully this is not a problem.

First off, congratulations on your new "sound system". Pictures are great and sound clips are always appreciated.
Your system reminds me of the Play Mini system out of the UK. including the sound clip, which they also have on their site.
Of all the aftermarket systems out there and based only on the sound clips posted on the internet, I must admit that these systems Stebro and Playmini sound the sweetest! They give the Mini that "Exotic European sports car sound"
I debated long and hard about which exhaust system to strap onto my MINI S, and finally settled on the Magnaflow. I still love it, but yours is a wee bit more musical to my ear.

The silncers (mufflers) are the two things in the rear, the resonator is the middle section, but to answer your question:
Yes, I do have the optional resonator section. If you do not get this section you'll have to have a muffler shop weld the rear section to your cut-off mid pipe, or fabricate a piece to bolt to the cat and come back to the rear section. Neither should cost nearly what the resonator section costs. I have not heard the system without the resonator, so I don't know if or how much it improves sound quality.

MCSHP: Contrary to mval, I do notice a slight droan around 90. I have ridden in a couple of cars with the Magnaflo and can deffinitely say that the Stebro droan is nothing compared to the MF. Plus the MF droans at actual hwy speeds like 70.
greatgro: I don't mean to start a Stebro v. Magnaflow war. "To each his own." But , IMO the tips look much better than the Magnaflow trumpets.

Oh I agree 100%! The Magnaflow tips/trumpets are REALLY ugly!
