So I am not certain if the answer has already been posted in this thread, but just out of curiousity, if I put the Alta GT2650 Turbo and the exhaust system on my yet to arrive R56 MCS, what kind of hp will my MINI put out?

That remains to be seen, from what I've gathered from chatting with alta, once a reflash or piggyback or standalone is available for the car we will see some numbers, the car is strong though.

Intake is about a week away!

Applejacks02,
No we haven't done HP runs yet. This i because we are testing a few things out with the car with the stock turbo, then we will be installing the Stock location turbo, then the GT2560. Because there is no Engine managment for the ECU (Yet) we haven't gone crazy with getting the turbo ready. To really get the full benifit of the bigger turbo, we really need a reliable way to increase boost pressure. At this point the stock boost curve is not something that can be varied from(at least very far)

But with that said, the 2 turbo options flow enough air to make 30-80WHP more than it has now. So from there we have some other fun options which make 100WHP on up. But those are ways away!

We have the kit ready to install, but we are waiting for some good engine managment to come along.

Now I must admit this will be my first car equipped with a turbo (never had a supercharger either), so I am a bit unfamiliar with some of the terminology. This is also the first car I will own that I am considering aftermarket products for....I thought about it for my mustang, but never got around to it. What is the difference between say BHP and WHP, and is there anything else I need to know in order to understand how the turbo works? Sorry to have to ask, but I have to learn it somehow

WHP = horsepower measure at the wheels of the car (on a chassis dyno).

BHP = base horse power (either measured with the engine out of the car on an engine dyno or calculated using a drive train loss ratio applied to the WHP)

bhp= brake horse power.. not base. Estimated using an engine dyno or way off factory #s. Wheel horse power is what matters, you can measure it without yanking the motor. Anything else is pretty much irrelevant.

Enjoy.

So do most manufacturers report bhp because it is easier for them to measure, or is it the higher of the two numbers so it looks better?

All mfr's are now required to publish net HP at flywheel with accessories running etc. WHP is generally 10-15% due to driveline loss. That is why it is especially interesting how HIGH the WHP numbers are published on the R56.

bmw/mini knows the mini is way stronger than the numbers say. I'm glad they list it as 177hp, it should be closer to 200bhp judging by all the 170ish whp dynos floating around. I like my insurance low!!! I think breaking the 200 mark might set off some red flags?
