I like open face helmets, but wanted the added protection of a chin bar - so, I went with a hybrid, the Bell SR-Pro, and I love it... comfy, light, and well made. And, it's SA rated...
I measured my head according to the directions on Bell's website. I ordered it online. When I got it, I did all the tests to ensure a proper fit... Many people skip this step and have a helmet that's either too big or too small.
All manufacturers have different measurement suggestions and different sizing. IMHO, it's worth spending a bit of time to investigate each one and measure to their specs - and order according to their sizing.

If you have never bought a helmet before ... go in person to the local motorcycle dealer or aftermarket shop
Try MANY on ... they all have a bit different shape and feel to them
Not all heads are the same shape and not all helmits are the same (I would be different sizes in different mfg) I actually have replaceable cheek pads that are sized differently than the size helmet and liner than orig.
It should be SNUG
Talk to someone who knows
My son works at a local aftermarket MC accessory place
They have a 30 day EXCHANGE policy.
Ask if your place does.
A 2 min trial in the showroom is NOT good enough.
Don't look at color or design ... it is fit first.
You can usually order what you find in different colors and graphics.
or buy a plain color and the match it to your car with paint/ stickers/ ...
a very popular helmet mfg had a slogan years ago
"Got a $10 dollar head ... buy a $10 helmet !"

Sorry vendors, buying a helmet is the last thing that I would buy on line.
