Valve stem caps (Should they stay or can they go?)

During track days, I'm constantly checking my tire pressures so I take my valve stem caps off and leave them off.

Does anyone know why or if that's a bad idea?

Depends in what direction they point. If they point outward, away from the rim you are OK. If they point more in toward the center of the rim then you need caps.

They point out so I guess I'm ok. What happens if they are pointed in toward the center of the rim? Loss of air?

Yea, centrifugal force can open the valves.

If you have chrome stems check to make sure they can't come off with the caps removed.
