here are some of the reasons for my cheap tire remarks.

i've got a buddy with an STI that eats tires on the track. He decided to start using cheap tires because he only gets a few days out of them R-cmpd or cheap. He also has and elise he tracks but uses the sti for rainy days or tracks far away he has more than a few hour drive.

I had a student at VIR in a MINI that was runnnig stock tires and wouldn't bump up the tires a few lbs per my suggetion and we kept spinning in hogpen. His response was that he obviously needed stickier tires and that he was going to get them for his next track event. That was his first event now he's off on R-cmpd for his next one. not a good idea.
WOAH man hold on a second. You think I didn't follow your advise? I would appreciate you having told me how foolish you thought I was to my face instead of me having to stumble across you badmouthing my tactics. I still have the stock tires. I bumped them up like you told me to. I didn't quip that I needed stickier tires. I knew I was bad, and I know I still suck. Yeah I did get some Nitto NT-01 tires and have had a great time on them (and have learned a lot from them).

As far as spinning twice, I learned from my mistake and have taken the proper action and have not had a problem.

Isn't that good enough for you?

See you at the track

By the way, that wasn't my first event (something else I told you)

Thanks for the tire pressure advice, guys. It's all good. I ran my Nitto NT-01s Wed and Thurs at WGI and kept the hot pressures at 39-40 all around. The car handled very well and she was not understeering like she was doing at Pocono back in June with asymmetrical pressures, under the same ambient weather/temps. Next I am going to work on the patch contact matter with chalk.
Again, thanks! You all really helped me out!

First of all, Please don’t try and live up to my expectations. Second, It's advice, not a rule. use it as you see fit. My advice was to increase you’re tire pressure from what the door sill sticker said and stay on street tires until you learn some car control. You did neither. You continued with the pressures you set that morning (you spun twice in the same place with those pressures) and did not want to increase them per my suggestion and now you’ve gone and bought stickies. That would mean no you didn’t follow my advice……

I would be more than happy to help you be a fast driver at VIR or any track. It is what I do for a living. I did not say your were foolish, I said change your tire pressures and don’t get stickies for your next track event. You PM’d me asking if I’d be at the track for a member day to help you out. I’m guessing that means you thought my instruction was OK. I was not there that day and asked a buddy of mine to help you out if he could find you. You are one of the few young drivers that is trying to improve their driving. That says a lot about you. Please continue with it. As a side note please be able to separate your track driving from your track driving. You cannot mix the two.

I changed my tire pressues. And my experience with street tires and tire pressue goes FAR beyond the one track day at VIR with you. You aren't the only instructor on the planet you know?
