Hot Glue

Has anyone had a problem with the glue that is used to hold the bonnit together getting hot and running out? Mine is dripping all over the place including running down the fender flair on the passanger side. I am having a hard time getting it to come off the plastic. Does anyone know a trick to cleaning it off.

Sounds more like wax used to protect the car during shipping.

It might be wax, but its comming out from between the hood and the frame that is spot welded to it. Whatever it is, it does not want to come off plastic. It does come off painted surfaces well.

It's the cosmolene used to protect the MINIs from the saltwater environment as they cruise the seas to their new homes.

I'm going to move this thread from Stock Problems/Issues to the Detailing 101 thread, where you will get many suggestions for how to deal with it.

Yeah it's not hot glue, it's cosmoline. I'm trying to remember what people have tried - WD40, Simple Green...I just used Slick with a MF cloth but I didn't have it on my plastic. It has to be something with the consistency to break up wax, for the plastic.

Be sure you go back and protect (wax paint, or treat/condtion plastic trim) when you are done. Some of that stuff can really dry out the plastic and is not really good for long-term application on the paint either.
