If you have a hard time finding a non-polymer-based soap, know that the polymer in any of them doesn't last very long since it's not the intention. So, you wouldn't have to worry about changing the look you just spent time getting.

There are still lots out there without a polymer though. P21S makes a good one called Bodywork Shampoo with a big following (although it's not as concentrated as some). It has no polymers and is bio-degradable.

My concern was not with the polymer/non-polymer base of the soap, but I was noticing many of the washes I was looking at were "All In One" wash/wax combo's. I never really considered what was used for lubrication in most car washes. Thanks for bringing that to light .

I'm really not that picky with car soaps. I like something that feels slippery and lifts the dirt off. Also since I use more of it than anything else, soap that is cheap helps also .

Re Heather's comments on concentration level:

I find Meg's NXT carwash to be concentrated to the point of being sticky. Because we have very hard water here, rininsing is quite a challenge so the one ounce per gallon ratio is especially important. This becomes apparent when I try to use NXT Detailer right after an NXT car wash.

For ease of use, effectiveness, and fragrance, I will stick with Z7

THe polymer issue is partly what I meant by "no added waxes" (obviously I'm including carnuba with that as well).

Adding a shine is great and all, except when I want to add another layer of wax after washing, my long-lasting wax is now on top of the short-lifetime layer left behind by the soap, and therefore disappears very soon.

That's exactly the reason why I stopped using my mr. clean auto dry for washing. It was clearly leaving a layer that was preventing the zaino from lasting very long.

So does mystique also have that? Do I need to just go with P21S in large quantities?

Or perhaps I should just scrub with Boraxo

Josh - If you are talking about the wash before a wax, something to strip the old wax but not leave any residue for the new wax, I would go with Dawn to remove any oils then follow with a 50/50 mix of water and alcohol. I think it is a misconception that Dawn alone will remove synthetic waxes like Zaino or Prima products. I did have good success removing the synthetic wax with a mix of vinegar and water but it smelled too bad so I went to alcohol and water with the same or better wax removal success. I just spritz it on with a spray bottle, let it sit for a bit and then rinse it off.
As far as day-to-day car shampoo I use Prima Mystique due to it's concentration requirements, compatibility with other Prima products, the nice smell and nice shine it leaves behind as well as it's super lubricity.

No...I am talking about a wash before applying a second coat of wax. Like, what I do every month or two. I only want to strip once or twice a year (and then I use dawn or a paint cleanser).

See PM I will send regarding Klasse

I ran out of my Zaino finally so I had to use what I had:

Autopia/Sonus smells clean but nothing special. Very sudzy. Lubricity OK.
Meguiars Gold Class actually smells bad. Not much lubricity.

I really miss the lubricity and awesome smell of the Zaino!
I'll probably make due with those two, though, till I make a DP order and try Mystique and see how it stacks up.

Now that I got Mystique, I don't use Listerine anymore.

I've used the following. And am putting it lightly and nicely when I say Not for me.

Armor All - Not for me
Turtle Wax - Not for me

Megs NXT Car - This stuff works awesome. Doesn't foam as much as I'd like but produces some very sweet, slick results.

Meguiars Gold Class - This stuff was okay. I liked the NXT better.

Meguiars Hyper Wash - One pump for 5 gallon water. This stuff is magic. This is the soap I will be using from now on. Works wonders. Lots of foam. Lubricity. Great job it does.

All the best.

I still hvae to try Prima stuff, as Octane Guy has convinced me.
