"Claying" a window?

I have hard water stops on my back window. I tried Griots Glass Polish to no avail. I have heard that some people clay their windows. What do you use as a lubricant? Speedshine? Soapy water?

Either one will work fine, especially on glass. In fact, you don't even have to use your "good" clay on the glass. When my old clay has gotten too dirty for me to use it on my paint, I set it aside as dedicated glass/wheel clay.

Yes - save your old, used-up/dropped clay for windows! Put it in a zip-lock baggie with some detail spray to keep it moist and label it "Rims/Windows ONLY".

Plain old steel wool with window cleaner will get the job done. Fine grade, of course. Works wonders with bugs on the glass as well.

Not to be picky, minispec, but have you tried this on MINI glass though?? It's very soft and scratches when you BREATHE on it it seems like sometimes. I can say that I've actually used dropped claybar (no good for paint any more but I made sure that no major grit was in the clay before using on glass/rims) on the windows several times with no ill-effects. Just checking - not getting on your case or anything...

Thanks!

Water spots on glass are usually calcium or some other mineral.

"Old School" vinegar and water works great.

ended up not needing to clay my commuter's windows. just used some
Griot's window cleaner on a paper towel (about 3000 grit?) and just
did 2 apps of RainX. used distilled water to remove the haze.

i extended the life of the wiper inserts probably another year.
