New Mini
You sound like me a long time ago!
A couple quick questions - how **** are you about keeping it clean, avoiding swirl marks and whatnot? The majority of us here suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. One person may answer this question with one paragraph, whereas the rest of us could probably write for two days straight the answers to your question.
I'll start by referring you to the sticky thread on this page written by agranger. That is a place to start.

Where are you located? It has been my experiance that finding a detailing friend is a great way to learn. Even though I see myself as a compitant detailer, I talk to detailers on a regular basis to see what they do, I have learned much from others.
As for longevity of waxing, a synthetic (like Prima Epic) will last longer than a carnuba-wax based product, but people usually will tell you that carnuba results in a "deeper" shine. I think the car looks great either way, so I clay-bar (cleans the surfacre of the clear coat) and use a synthetic wax (Epic) every 6 months, then keep that wax looking great via Detailers Paradise's Hydro (used on a wet car after washing - reduced the look of fone swirtls) and Slick (a all-purpose detailing spray - keeps the finish SO smooth and... well, "slick").
Welcome to NAM!! Once you get the detailing down pat, than the "MOD BUG" comes along and bites you on your wallet. Let the fun begin!!!
