I was finally able to get enough time to wash/wax and detail Fiona, and thought I'd just share how it went.

Washed with Zymol wash. Lovely coconut scent, I'm sure Fiona loved it, my wife hates coconut though, so score one for Zymol!

Finish felt a bit rough, so I opted for Zymol HD Cleanse. Bloody useless! Didn't do much even when following directions (which is quite rare for me) so I gave up. Minus one for Zymol.

I switched to Griots Clay Bar and Speed Shine. Whoa baby what a job it did. I was able to clean the surface and make it mirror smooth. My first experience with a Clay Bar and I'm hooked on them for now on.

2 applications of Zymol Creame wax. You rub some between your hands, the warmth melts the wax, and you rub it on with both hands (rings and watches off!). If Fiona could talk she would have been moaning. I'm glad my wife wasn't watching!

Finish is about as deep as you can get on a silver car. Score another one for Zymol.

Now for a beer ...

I used to love the Zymol wax, but recently I got the cleaner wax and it leaves oily swirl marks on my cars. I does shine very nice and the marks dissappear after a car wash, but still I remember Zymol 3 or 4 years back and it was a great product.

I don´t know if this is the a liquid wax problem. I don´t remember the paste wax ever leaving the car oily.

Anothe problem I have found is that it doesn´t last at all. After two weeks the wax is all gone.

If by "cleaner wax", you mean the stuff that you can find on the shelf at Pep Boys, then you have to keep in mind that that stuff isn't actually made by Zymol. I believe it is made by Turtle Wax (not positive) for Zymol.

I got the MINI kit from Zymol and I love it! The wax (glaze) may not be the most durable, but it leaves an amazing shine, and applying it with your bare hands is probably as close as you can come to having sex with your car

I've only used the HD Cleanse once, but I seem to recall having good results with it.

I believe Turtle Wax and Zymol are the same company - two different brands they sell.

I've never liked the HD Cleanse and always found clay bars to be much better. I recently tried clay magic after reading a ton of rav reviews over at autopia. I suggest you might want to try it next as I'm sure it is a ton cheaper then anything griots(overpriced) sells.

Glad your car is looking tip top and enjoy your beer!

There was recenltly a link on here to an NSX club that did a test of the various waxes. The off the shelf Zymol actually score quite a bit better than the ultra- expensive NSX Zymol.

I was a Zymol user, and very pleased with the results, until I saw what Zaino can do. Zaino is a bit of a pain to get ahold of, but wow, I know what a real mirror shine is now!

acetonic - if you love zaino you should try topping the zaino with some p21s carnuaba....you will really be in for a treat. Adds a ton of depth to the already huge shine...plus after about two months the carnuaba wears off the zaino is left intact...and you can just apply more p21s over it. You should be able to really tell a difference on red as your car is...some of the real light colors might not be such a noticable change though.

Casey, is Zaino an acryllic finish rather than a carnauba wax finish?

That is exactly what I meant with cleaner wax. (I actually got it in a Pep boys) I didn´t know it was so bad, I though Zymol only made premium products.

zgokart - yes it is a sythetic. There is no carnuaba wax in it. Carnuaba has great properties for adding depth...but one property it doesn't have is durablity.

Yeah... take a look at the label. If it has a Chicago address on it, it's manufactured by Turtle Wax. Genuine Zymol is from CT, I believe.
