Is it brand new? Do you live in a desert? Do you drive closer than legally suggested ever?

That's normal. My 4 month old 06 MCS has them after driving under normal conditions. Frustrating. From the many posts that I have read the Mini windshield has a softer glass than US windshields. The replacement windshield if on my nickel will be non OEM.

No its an 05 ith 20000 miles... I guess he drove too close before. I'm from the UK and drive with wayyyy more room between cars than people seem to here so hopefully I'm not going to add to it. It's a pretty crazy mess though considering the rest of the car is pristine.

After only 2000 miles my windshield already looked like it had been sandblasted when driving into the sun.... geesh.

4800 miles and I see lots of pits, but I only really notice it at night when the lights bring it out. standard MINI characteristic.

You got it! That and it is french made and somehow very soft.
Don't worry, they break so often on people you usually get a nice new clear one each year.

Has anyone tried aggressive forms of glass polish to freshen them up?

No, but clay helps. I needed a new windshield somewhere around 2500 miles (no, I'm not joking). My new one (now with 5800 miles) is all teeny chips and pits. Claying it helps draw any gunk out of the spots so it looks clearer.

That's hopeful info. Hm. I am a clear glass fanatic. I get it replaced in older cars after the winter sometimes. It makes for a much more relaxed driving experience having optically pure windows.
