So is it true that a touchless car wash will remove wax? I would believe that it could remove carnauba, but I think synthetics should hold up okay...

Any other opinions?

 

na i think it might be ok..........although it is high pressure, i still wouldnt think it would remove the wax.

 

i think the detergents they sometimes use are too harsh and could
remove wax regardless of carnauba or polymer based.

dont under estimate the durability of carnauba waxes though,
some polymers ive tried have been less durable than Best of Show.

right now it is a battle between Epic and BofS for me on my
two commuters that were applied a day apart to see how well
it would last to Spring.

 

touchless washes are designed to scrub disgusting cars clean without touching or without more than 1 minute of work.

I would say it would strip your car of much. Dawn cleans off wax.... they probably use stronger than dawn stuf?? just a guess.

 

^^ plus the pressure is pretty high... i remeber it removing NXT in one pass...

 

Looks like I am going to stick to the usual winter plan. Self-serve car wash, and not max pressure on the spray gun. Seems safer. Although it has been so warm in the NE, I haven't had to deal with this issue yet

 

^^ yah, im not sure what psi those sprayers are under but some
of them are extreme....

 

yes I agree that they are. I am planing on using them 2x this winter about when the salt comes around and everything is all frozen up. However, they have a setting near me that can isolate and just do undercarriage. that is what I am aiming for when I do things. I hope it doesnt snow much

I remember I had an old crx when I was in high school. It was on its last leg. A friend said he would pay me 500 bucks to drive it though the carwash in my boxers with the windows and sunroof down. Me being the great honorable person I am said..Sure. So I did it and let me let you that isnt soap (it burns ur skin) and the high powered washers cut me and the blow dry system gets hot. I doubt that its good for your car. Just thought I would share.

I used to run a Truck wash and we would use a combination of acid and soap , the chemical reaction along with the psi cleaned it quick. It was also good for the side job of putting wax back on. Stripped the wax right off as well as drying out the rubbers.

 

Cuts, burns, ACID??? Not good
