Wheel Wax quick detailer?

Hi folks,

I just tried Wheel Wax on my wheels the other day, and it seems to be working great. (I like the smell and foamy texture of the stuff )

Anyway, I was wondering what quick detailer works best with Wheel Wax. I read in other threads that it is best to use the QD of the same brand as the wax that you use. Does Wheel Wax have a QD? If not, what works best with it?

Thanks!

Hmm Im not sure if there is such a QD formulated for wheel wax. I suggest you check out :

DP Wheel Glze. Stuff just seems to bounce off rims with this stuff.
http://www.autogeek.net/dp-wheel-glaze.html

Or if you are looking for a good spray protectant that works on rims, check out Duragloss Aquawax. I use it on my mother's volvo xc-90's spoked rims every month and they stay clean.

The wheel glaze is by far the best wheel protectant I have used however. I havent tried the wheel wax yet, keep us updated!

OK, thanks for the tip. I'll try the wheel glaze after the wheel wax is used up.

I am currently using the Zaino QD spray when wiping off the brake dust. It has just been a couple of days with little driving. Will have to see how it goes ...

The Zaino QD is fine on top of wheel wax.

When you use up your Wheel Wax put Zaino on your wheels. It will last longer than Wheel Wax.

Wheel Wax has a lot of solvents and some mechanical abrasive in it which makes for great initial clean-up of wheels. (And identical results can be had with many other different waxes and polymer sealants) Zaino is not designed to clean, just protect what finish is there so you need to clean the wheels first.

The whole wheel wax craze is booming lately...Gotta love marketing!

Hi Brad!

I had been using Zaino on my wheels. Then, I saw some wheel wax for sale sitting on the counter at the parts outlet at the MINI service center. I got suckered in and bought some (No sales attempt by serivce guy ... all my fault.)

I will take your advice and go back to Zaino ...

Ha! I saw it sitting on the parts counter, too! No worries, use up the Wheel Wax. Like I said, it does clean nicely!

I just removed the wheels and waxed them today on my S4. I think you put the bug in my ear!

I've been using Nu Finnish on my wheels for a few years now, goes on easy, and makes washing the wheels a snap for about 4 months.

I just finnished waxing my wheels for winter. The wheels, white hollies, had some stains on them from old balance weights, had new tires put on this summer.

I tried washing the stains off, claying them off, and using a cleaner wax, nothing worked. Wanting to get them ready for winter, I moved on to putting on the Nu Finnish.

As I was applying it, I found the stains fading, and as I rubbed the stains they went away. This product does not smell nice, kind of solvent smelling, so I figure whatever it is made of livened up the crud where the weights were and the wheels look great. Well except for the 60k miles of paint chips

I use Meguiares QD on the wheels, don't want to waste the Zaino

+1!!

It literally just took me maybe 5 minutes to wipe down my rims, thanks to Epic and Slick. I'm seriously in love.

The stains you have sounds like it needs to be polished out... like
the coat of clear or paint needs to be removed. so Slick will not
do that.

Slick is QD.

The Nu Finnish took out the stains. My white wheels are showing signs of age/miles, there are lots of stone chips on them, mostly small ones. I have touch-up painted a couple of bigger ones. May be time to think about repainting them.

sounds good. like chemcials work well together.

i use to use CleanerWax by meg before to clean stained wheels. It has
abrasives in the wax. the abrasive is pretty coarse so didn't want to
recommend it... but if next time nothing works, give that a shot too.

I tried the meg cleanerwax, it did nothing.

The Nu Finnish stuff smells bad, like solvent, no perfumes to make it smell nice. I would never use it on the body of the car, but it works great on the wheels, withstands high temps. Unlike the cleanerwax, I feel no abrasives in it when I rub it between my fingers. So I guess the chemicals it is made from liven up the stains, and allow them to be wiped off.

While doing the wheels on the MINIs I was daydreaming about true spoked wire wheels on mine. Does anyone make them? Yeah I know I'm odd, and they would probably be real hard to clean. But I remember Classics with them, and they looked great!

^^ wow those are actual rims, huh? not hubcaps like on the old GM
cars. now THAT is going to be a biotch to clean if you get
any road salt on it.

are you going to wax individual spokes? spray NXT?
