Fixing scratched glass

My car was originally tinted at the dealership. It was bad. (lots of bubbles and a scratch on the rear driver's side window) Well, I had some one else redo it. Come to find out, the dealer's tinter not only scratched the tint, he (or she) also scratched the window. I called to get an estimate on what it would cost to replace the window. They said about $400. I've seen these window scratch repair kits.

Has anyone used any of these? ...or is there another glass repair that you used? What was the result?

From what I understand those kits are for windshields not side glass. The side glass is tempered & may shatter if you try to polish it. At least that's what I've heard. You might want to ask a glass company if it's possible.

Maybe this would work...

I just did an instant quote on safelite.com, and it was around $300 for a rear quarter-panel pane. They have specials that vary - I just had my windshield replaced at 40% off, and right now they have 28% off (the $300 reflects this)...so I think if you keep checking and can be patient with it, you might be able to get it closer to $200. Plus they come to you and do the install for free.

Congrats, MiniSuperCooper, I am glad to see that you are pursuing correction of the problems, rather than replacing the car.

I tried the Janvil product on my mcs windshield (light scratches and pits)....I will say it shined and was clean...DID NOT HELP THE PITS OR SCRATCHES THOUGH...After the elbow grease...I took out the PC random orbital...NO LUCK either....waste of $$ IMHO.

My windshield is nice and shiney though...for $30

I got a Janvil glass restoration Glass revive system and all I can say is it is pretty awesome!!!! The side and back windows on my Ford were so all spotted & etched with some type of chemical and scratches. It was a danger at times at night because the view was kind of distorted. I was about to trade in the truck for a new model but I really did not want to do it. Not enough green these days.

I ordered the janvil glass stuff and after the first application I could see a difference. When I was done for the day I was at 99.8% improvement!!!!

This weekend I’ll give it another couple of treatments to get more clarity. I am pretty exited that I found a product like Janvil’s that I could use to fix my problem.
