Prima Epic Review... first round test.
Peter, if you're asking about the Mother's stuff, I'd put up a seperate thread (less confusing)... If you meant to ask about the Prima, I'm sure Kenchan will share his "best practice" application when he has the opportunity to let the wax cure.
Epic unless someone else actually tried this product and wanted to
write their comparisions.

As far as applying Epic 2nd round, I didn't do anything different.
I dusted, then mist and wiped the entire car after the 24hr curing,
put a few dabs of Epic on my firmer Griot's orange pad, and took
my orbital.
Applied the same way as the 1st coat... very thin coat. Let it
dry for 30-35min+ and just buffed off the haze.
Just a quick note on trim and wax for anyone new that might have stumbled in here...
2" wide Painter's Tape takes about 15-20 minutes to apply to all of the trim prior to waxing, and will save you a TON of heartache and time. It may SEEM like a PITA to prep like this, but it's well worth the extra effort and, really, you should only have to do this a few times a year.

Oh, and DO NOT STORE YOUR TAPE IN THE GARAGE. The extremes of heat and cold can cause the tape glue to get soft and negate it's "no residue" nature (don't ask me how I know that).
Let us know about that durability, Kenchan!

Took advantage of the free shipping offer and the slick and epic arrived today (quite quick i might add!). applied the first coat to my MCS and classic today after a long day of washing , polishing, etc. looks good already, can't wait to see it tomorrow!

cool!
mini when you get a chance!
from your post, i think you're saying that you remove the haze after
letting it dry 35-40min?

6 rain storms (which 1 was very severe with tornado warnings last week
) + 2 washes.
After the rinse, i noticed the water basically just coated the paint on
the hood of the Civic. It did not bead or sheet off by itself like it did
before.
To my luck (?)
it started raining again as soon as i was about done wiping down the car.
The rain beaded pretty well.
I wiped it down again and the wet look is still there.

Done!
Posted pics in my gallery, about a dozen, Enjoy! The classic got caught in the rain this morning, so not as dazzling as it was last night but still good. Also note that the paint on the classic is not the best quality (thanks to the previous owner), so i was very impressed with where I ended up after 2 coats of Epic. The MCS looks spectacular! I think by far the best results I have gotten out of various products. Now we will see how durable it is...

looks good indeed!
During my most recent wash, the rinse water just coated the hood... it
didn't bead or sheet off like it did before... but after drying, the wet look
was definitely still there. i know i used a lot of rinse water so left over soap
was definitely not the issue.
After i wiped down the car, it started raining... and the water beaded.
the wax is still there, just not sheeting off the panels.

The pics turned out great. Please keep me posted on your durability. Although we test everything extensively (as do others for us), we always like to get ongoing feedback regarding performance (not to mention other things too).Keep me posted! Glad you like it so far too!

Since this thread is going strong, I had to post a couple pics to represent Klasse, my polymer of choice. One coat of AIO and one coat of sealant - both go on so quickly and the stuff lasts for months. I did not get to top it with Pinnacle Souveran this time, but I think he still looks good

^^ that looks good. super reflection on the first pict.
Heather, which wax would you consider Epic's direct competition
in terms of cost, ease of use, and durability?
I posted this review on several forums and I get a lot (?) of
feedback and PM's on comparisions with Klasse polymers.

Heather - Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Klasse is an acrylic resin. I also think that Zaino and Epic are polymers. Perhaps this is trivial detail though I would think that they would react and protect differently.
Hi all,
Sorry for the delay in posting back! It’s been completely crazy around here for the past couple of days. :impatient
Ken,
First, a little info on your washing experience... Your results are normal. For some reason soaps temporarily break the surface tension of the wax resulting in the reaction you experienced. You will notice the next time the surface gets wet, the beading is back as strong as ever.
To address some of the comparison questions...
Epic is a different polymer structure than Klasse. Yes, Klasse is an acrylic-based polymer (also, most synthetic, aka polymer, waxes contain resins). Klasse SG, Epic and Zaino are similar in that they offer excellent durability and protection, relative to carnauba waxes and lesser quality synthetics. Klasse AIO doesn’t offer the same length of durability though, from our experiences. The main difference between all of them is the application process and the look they give.
The look, on most colors anyway, is quite differing. Most synthetics (aka polymers or sealants, like Klasse & Zaino) tend to be reflective and shiny (very little, if any, depth). Epic has a wet depth and is glossy. Oddly enough, Klasse also tends to look wet on red paint in particular, but not on any other color. So, it depends what look you like. They all look great, just different. Of course, the lighter colors aren't going to show these differences nearly (if at all) as much as the darker colors. Of course, these terms are subjective, but we try to use the most universally used terms so everyone is on the same descriptive page as possible.
From an application standpoint, in my opinion, Klasse AIO and Epic are the easiest to apply by far, Klasse SG can be stubborn to buff off, and Zaino takes the most time to apply.
All are very concentrated, so if used in the proper quantities, they are fairly comparable in price.
Hope this helps! I'm a little rushed right now (and my head is spinning!) so I hope I didn't miss anything.

Wow, excellent info! I just wanted to add a tip with regard to the difficulty in removing Klasse SG. I agree, and so I always go over the whole car at the end with some Sonus acrylic mist - takes any SG residue right off!
Another helpful tip for the SG that we've found is to let it sit for a loooong time. We usually buff off after at least 10 hours. It seems to come off more easily then. We checked this out with Klasse and they said that this is a good way to do it.
-Heather
Heather - thanks for the info! I must disagree on one of your statements however; if Zaino were any easier to get on and take off it would have to jump out of the bottle and then buff itself off
. Seriously I can't imagine anything being easier to put on and take off than Zaino - absolutely no effort on either end. Granted I add the accelerator (Z-FX) but all that involves is a few drops (no effort) and some shaking (minimal effort). So I guess I doubt that Epic or Klasse could be any easier.
Really though that is neither here nor there. What is important is the final results and the durability.
This is why I find the information from Ken so good. I am totally happy with my Zaino process, results and durability. That said if there was something available locally (no shipping and no waiting) that performs as well as Zaino - then I'm all over that.
So here's to Ken and his lab experiment

Thank you, Heather!
doing that. It rained over night last night and this morning my car
was beading very well. man, these chemistry stuff is waaay deep!
I agree that the difference ive noticed with Epic is the wetness
and depth. Most polymers ive seen (done by detailers and weekend
hobbiests like me) tend to be SUPER surface shiny and honestly
almost PLASTICY. (if that's even a word). Epic, is not like that at
all.
When my real world test shows that Epic can out last 10 washes and
15+ rain storms, i will switch to Epic on my commuters and G35C.
There are 2 major reasons why:
1) Griot's natural wax tends to shift while drying after a wash..meaning,
i get crusty crap of wax clogging up the edges of the parting lines
sometimes. It's high maintenance. Polymers including Epic does not do
this. But one thing I have to say is that Best of Show is an extremely
durable wax. My Legacy continues to bead water after 20+ rain storms,
over 12 washes using GoldClass.
and it still looks fantastic. 2) The easy on, easy off... Best of Show is an awesome warm,
reflective wax, but a true pita to wipe off... i have to use detailer spray
or water and lots of elbow grease... then buff. I don't mind spending
extra time on my weekend cars, but on my commuters that's just too
much work. I continue to get complients on my Civic with Epic... and
all I did was apply and remove the wax.
ok, there's one more reason... on my silver G35C, i can get a much
wetter look with a polymer than Best of Show. If i want more of a
natural wax finish, I can do the SprayOn wax from Griots to get the
final touch to my preference. I like to have that option... the deep
wet look with warmth.

Im going to keep the Best of Show on my MCS for now as I am very
pleased with how it looks. It's at a point where I don't really need
to change the appearance and in no rush to do so.
