I assume you are talking about the outside colored portion of the wires?

I use Meguiar's APC (All Purpose Cleaner) for cleaning spark plug wires. Then I dress it with Meguiar's HyperDressing to make it look new again.

octaneguy- not exactly the nologywires in my case, but when i
masked off the rubber/chrome trim on my windows, the painters tape
left an adhesive goo. this ever happen to you? and if so, what did you
use to clean that?

i have some RC car motor spray so put a dab on a paper towel to wipe it,
then wiped it down with SpeedShine to make sure the rubber didn't too
dry.

also, is there a trick not to get goo from the 3M painters tape on that
trim? all other trims were fine.

Are you referring to the tapelines?? The lines that exist after polishing the car and removing the tape?? This isn't tape goo. This is polish/wax buildup along the edges of the tape.

If your tape is leaving residue, then it's time to find a new source of tape--none of my 3M painters tape has ever left any residue behind.

For the tapelines, I polish with the tape, remove the tape, and apply final waxing without the tape. The tape is there to help avoid splatters and avoid getting polish on the trim, which in the Meguiar's line will turn plastics white. The wax I use, M21 doesn't do that, so there are no worries about removing the tape early.

Yes, the woven material. Is the MPC too harsh? I figured the Simple Green would be pretty harsh.

Ugh, I'm sorry, I need to retract that advice. I was thinking of Jackson racing and Magnecor type wires. For the cloth type wires, APC, highly diluted, with a very soft brush, might work best.

Skip Hyperdressing on this material.

it was rather kind of sticky so thought it was tape goo... but ok, next
time i will remove the tape when i hand apply the wax at the very end.

Hmm, strange. Meguiar's products don't attack the tape, so I've never seen this. I suppose you could use Goo Gone if it is adhesive. If it is built up residue then final wax application with a PC works perfectly.
