Buffing / Polishing a CF piece.

Hellooo..
I don't know if I can post this here or not but..
I have a quick question regarding to buffing a carbon fiber piece..

I clear coated a resin coated cf today with some auto aerosole clear coat thinge.. and some how I just cannot get the 'wet mirror bling shiny blind-me' look out of it. I've searched online and people are 'buffing' their c/f piece at the end or something.. I tried waxing it with zaino

but i don think it does anything to it...

do I have to put some other thing on it beside clear coat?
i'm confused..

Help~!

what you need to do is to lay a thin, even layer of clear, let it dry thoroughly, then wetsand it with 1000+ grit paper, working to the highest grit you can find... then repeat about 10 times. it will be very labor intensive, but will look amazing when you're done

I've never done CF, but that's the general procedure for smoothing out an orange-peeled surface. You need a fair amount of abrasive (sandpaper) to smooth out the 'hills' down to the level of the 'valleys'. Zaino is never going to do it (well... maybe a few thousand coats) because it lacks any abrasive.

You could try a rubbing compound, followed by a swirl mark remover, followed by a paint polish, but I'd be willing to bet that you are going to need the wet sanding first. After you finish the wet sand, you will probably have to follow the compound... steps I just mentioned to really bring out the surface.

I've always heard that you should wait at least 4-5 weeks before doing any compounding work on a freshly painted surface. I would think that would apply to the wet sanding as well...

Thank you guys for explaning the procedure.
Well since last night, I've been coating coating coating coating (of course with wet sanding)

It starts to being a lot more glossier than before..

I guess my next priority is to smooth out the orange-peel surface.

Thanks guys!
