Meguiars Gold Class Wax

Meguiars Gold Class makes a wax for cars with clear coat.

Has anyone had experience with this product? What is your take on this Wax?

TIA,

I used to use it back in the '90s and was always happy with the results, but it doesn't last very long. If I remember correctly, it pretty much wore off after a few washes.

It's a decent wax if you don't mind waxing a lot. It was easy on/easy off also. If you're looking for longer term protection, I would consider Klasse or Zaino. IMHO.

Ditto.

I used that stuff for years on my cars and got good results. With newer techology and similar application, I'd probably switch to NXT if you want to wax every few months.

The Meguiars Gold Leather care was also a great product.

The waxing product wars can be seen in other NAM threads, but I stepped up to Zaino a few years ago and I've been loving it ever since.

Be very careful not to get any wax on the black molded trim if you decide to use the Gold Class!!!

Thanks for your tip.

After reading what a pain it is to remove wax from the plastic trim, I think I will mask the trim before waxing.

Like this?

Takes less than 1/2 an hour to do. Use a low tack painters masking tape. It won't leave any adhesive behind. And if you do get some wax on the black plastics, use Meguiars Gold Class trim detailer, works great.

I'd use the NXT wax, been happy with it.

Tried it...

Washed, Masked, Waxed - ir worked great!

I have another question. I notice everyone talks about using 100% cotton towels and I wondered if it is a no-no to use a chamois?

I used it serveral months ago. It hide the scratches very well, however I don't think this product is worth it because it leaves major stain on plastics does not last at all. I would recommend S100 ($15 at Harley) or NXT.

I used a 3 step process from Meugiars which was a Paint cleaner, glaze and then paint sealer.

I too mask off everytime now to avoid wax/glaze on the plastic trim.

I kinda like the blue/green tape look... Maybe you should leave it on full-time?

FWIW, the vents behind the bonnet are quite easy to remove - probably takes less time to remove them than to mask them. That way you don't have to fret about getting wax on them, AND you get to clean all the grit/dirt/etc. that has built up underneath them.

Thanks for the tip - it is a good one. Now that I know it is easy to remove the vents, I will clean under them.

My next project is to clean under the bonnet - any suggestions?

For dark colors like my IB, I like to use NXT Tech Wax first, then put on Gold Class Clear Coat Wax over that for extra gloss and protection. Last for a long time.

Also, if you get any wax on the trim, it's easy to remove with some rubbing alcohol on a towel. Also NXT glass cleaner works well. Just spray a bit on and rub it off. Doesn't take much effort.

Glad it worked out for you.

Richard

I have to try that. The first time I waxed the car I was lazy and didn't tape it off so I got wax on several spots.

You know, the black plastic trim is super easy to remove, and that way you can wax underneath it, and not have to worry about wax goop.
