Quick detailing
Quick detailing
I've been using the regular, red bottle Meguiar's quick detailer for quite a while now. After I get back from the car wash (yeah, yeah, sacrilege, don't start), I use the QD to remove any water spots and any bug spots that the fine folks at the car wash couldn't be bothered with.
Anyway, I'm getting down to the end of a bottle, and thought I'd check in to see what the latest recommendations you all had. I am not a detail-o-phile so your multi-coat wax suggestions will fall on deaf ears! I'm happy with NXT wax.
So, stick with the QD? Get the newer NXT detailer? Get the spray wax booster (I'd use it twice a month - too often?)?
I'm not married to Meguiar's for this either. I remember seeing a post mentioning a product that someone promised was clearly superior to the Meguiar's stuff (yet did not require 400 coats of wax underneath it), but I can't find it now.
Whatta y'all think?

Whatever you go with, it is better to stick to the same line of wash/wax/polish/QD/etc. So, if you're an NXT wax user, get some of the NXT detailer.
If you're a Mother's California Gold wax user, get their matching quick detailer product.
That's what made the launch of NXT wax so maddening -- they only came out with the QD in that line after close to a year or something like that.
And yeah, I'm not going to beat you over the head about which line to use -- use what you like the best. That's what counts. As long as it's quality product, it's all good.
Frankly, I have fun trying different stuff from time to time.

So, you just use the QD on a dry car without washing? And it does not scratch using a MF towel?
I use a duster each night at least until I get rained on and the dirt is stuck, should I do that, then QD after?

I for some strange reason got in the habit of using Mothers QD and I've liked the way it performs. Not better than any other probably, but if someone gives you a bottle, go ahead and use it.
Question...why does QD smell so good?
Mothers smells like cinnamon...Meguiar's is smells like honeysuckle (or something). After QDing assorted insects, bumblebees, butterflies, and other assorted woodland creatures often flock and frolick around my car. Why?? What strange nectar does it contain? NAM chemists....your thoughts.

The fragrances in all those products are an additive purchased by the manufacturer from companies that develop additive fragrances. It's the samething in the cosmetic industry and the coffee industry. The fragrance manufacturers work with the company developing the product by creating a custom flavor oils in the case of coffee or a custom fragrance that works with the product. The idea is that your senses get hooked on a particular aroma and you associate that aroma with that product it's sort of like a product signature or visual logo for your nose so each company will have it's aroma that you associate it with.

It's confusing because I think there are things called wax boosters (maybe that isn't their technical name, but it's what they do) that you can apply prior to putting on a finishing coat of wax. That's a Zaino-type system, where each product has a single function and by putting a coat of one product over a coat of another and another and another you build a deeper shine with more protection.

If you are happy with the NXT wax, I'd stick with the NXT detailer.
Hi all, I'm from Aussie so my question may apear confusing. My MCSa had Paint Protection as additional from dealer in package with window tint and fabric, this was done in June05, given it is winter here, the water beads nicely. I'm told this should last for a year.
I wash with NXT Car Shampoo which is really good, then just dry with Meguiars MF Chamois.
My question is, Can I use NXT Quick Detailer after drying without impacting the clear coat or paint protection?
Yes

Yes. Thats what it is for. Do it in the shade. Spray on, let it sit for a minute, them wipe softly to spread it. I then use a buffing towel to finnish.
