I know getting bugs off fast is best, but I didn't. Now I have a ghost of a stain even after the huge yellow splat is gone. I did clay bar just to be sure I got everything off. Before I rewax the area, is there anything else I can do to make the fade or stain go away? Will zaino over it seal it in? Frankly, I almost wish I didn't like this car so much. Then I could treat it like 'normal'--drive thru a car wash when it's dirty! I don't enjoy car care and it's frustrating to put in the work and still have problems.

Try soaking the area with a soapy towel, or one soaked in Quick detailer. Leave it on there for a few minutes, that may help.

If you wax over it, it will seal it in.

You could try a paint cleaner also.

The ghost stain is actually caused from the acids from the bug etched into your wax and clear coat. The only way to remove it at this point is to get a tube of Scratch-X or some other mild polishing compound and work that area well and re-wax. It should remove most if not all.

You can also use the Murphy's as a bug remover. Won't do much for tar, but take a spray bottle with 1 part Murphy's liquid oil soap to 2 parts water. Spray on the bugs, let soak, hose and wipe away.

Bug remover on bonnet stripes

Spring has sprung and the bugs are out. We just motored from DC to South Carolina this weekend and the front of our MINI is coverd with bugs. Read the previous posts and there are some great tips on bug removal. One question though - is detailing spray safe to use on factory bonnet stripes?
