I have 7 layers on mine and it looked great after 3... I am really worried about the bug carcasses... I was thinking of putting a coule extra layers on the front end and following the whole thing up with Z8... any thoughts... I was also going to bring a can of WD-40, Z-8 and ploishing cloths to wash when I get to the destinations.... any other suggestions?

BTW, I have:

Z5-Z6-Z5-Z6-Z2-Z6-Z5-Z6-Z5-Z6
It's actually doing quite a bit more than that. It allows the Z2/Z5 to " cure" nearly instantly, which is different than drying. It also "bonds" and cross-inks one layer to the next, rather than one layer just sitting on top of the previous. It adds to the durability and the optical gloss.

I have a bottle of Z6 in my car all the time "at the ready" for bug removal duty. If you Z8 the car before your trip and take Z6 or Z8 on the road with you, you will have little trouble removing them. I just came back from a 400 mile run into bug infested southern Missouri and Arkansas and each evening I got out the Z6 and it cleaned them off easily. I had insect remover with me but never needed it.

I have a base of Z2, Z8 Z2, Z8, Z2, Z8. I wash weekly with Z7.

Thanx... So I don't need the WD-40? Cool, I was goign to bring the z8 along anyway... do the touchless carwash thing (No wax or other crap) to get the road grit off...driving thru the Bayou in LA your mileage is counted in windshield washer fluid.... 100 miles per refill ... especially at night when I like to do long trips.....somethines it feels like you need an Ice-Scraper to clean the guts off.....YUCK!

If you are serious about using Zaino then I suggest you get the Z7 wash and wash the car a couple times, at least, with a heavy concentrate of the car wash before you start your first layer. This will help to ensure you have removed any carnauba traces left from any car washes that were used prior. (Even if the car has not been waxed, most shampoos have carnauba traces in them.) If the car was washed with a cheap carnauba a few washes with Zaino shampoo will likely remove it. Warm water will help. I would also clay the car to remove contamination and ensure a slick finish to start with.

You don't want to skimp here. If the paint surface is not as clean as possible you wont get a proper bond and will lose durability and sacrifice gloss.

I know you have been told a lot of things and heard a lot of things. And if using Dawn scares you then don't do it. But remember that not all painters understand detailing chemistry and not all detailers understand paint technology. Consider your sources and make educated decisions.

Cheers.
Thank you this helps alot
Cheers

i agree with brad my procedure is z2pro,z6,z2pro,z8 and now it does not take very long to do as i always have other cleaning to do while the zaino dries, clean wheels, glass, vacuum, and wipe the engine dry and clean.....then sit back and admire my handywork........

pepper white/ pepper white sure does look good in zaino.........

I'll concur with the first regimine:

Z5, Z6, Z5, Z6, Z2, Z6 (repeat Z2,Z6 as many times as is possible), z8

I still haven't convinced myself of the necessity or even benefit of z8, but I'm still playing with it.

If you use ZFX it says to use within 6 hours. I'm guessing after that it doesn't work as well? Anyway this is why I did Z5, Z6, Z5, Z6, Z5, Z8. I made 1 ounce of ZFX enabled Z5 so I could use it all in one session. I needed less than 1 ounce so I used the leftover on my other car. My second batch which was Z2 and I did 3 layers. I kept the leftover Z2 for the next day and put on layer #7 on the Mini.

how good is the Z5 in everyone's opinion? I'm about to order, but i'm thinking of taking out the Z5 and getting Z-8 instead. I plan to do a comprehensive 3M SMR battle before using Z-2

BradB,
Ok, I was thinking about this....do you use it to remove the bugs...like spray it on a rag and wipe off the bug?

Also.....I have an 11 year old camaro whose paint looks pretty decent but has some swirl marks... should I layer on the Z5 and then add the Z2 or start with Z2 and then layer on the Z5?

Spray it on the bugs, let soak for a second, then wipe off once. Flip towel, respray and detail clean. Don't ever wipe bug bodies into the paint. They scratch.

Always layer Z5 first, if two layers of Z5 don't "hide" the swirls (more layers won't help) then it's time to get out a dedicated swirl remover abrasive and "remove" the swirls. Always follow up with Z2 Pro because it has a higher gloss.

In response to mataku's question above, Z5's ability to hide swirls is limited and I choose not to use it. I remove them and go right to Z2.

mataku, I would get the Z8.

yah.. looks like i'll ditch the Z5 and the package. I really hate the package.. there's barely any savings at all.

so bascially I get everything in the package minus the applicators, the lame decal, and Z5. Then i'll add in the Z8.

Not wanting to hijack the thread, just borrow some bandwidth :-)

Looking forward to a day off to Zaino the ride, and I just gotta know: any special considerations with use of Zaino products over bonnet stripes or a 3M ClearBra-type product?

Cheers,
Matthew Z.

I treat mine just like paint, per my Zaino reps advice. So far, so good
