Cleaning SSR wheels

I have gook on my SSR Comps. It could be tar. How do i get it off without scratching the wheels? I already scratched them a little bit somehow. Any way to get scratches out? Can they be waxed out? I tried a search but it was exhausting. Thanks

WD40 is a good start. Use a soft microfiber cloth.

Turtle Wax has made a product for years... Bug and Tar Remover. It is chock full of solvents, so you will have to re-wax afterwards, but it does a great job.

If you can get the bulk of it off, you could use a clay-bar to touch up the area and remove the rest.

Tarminator by Stoners is also great. Any of these ideas should do the trick. But the key, as agranger said, is to use a soft microfiber towel to avoid scratches.

If the wheels are painted, wax will remove some scratches (a good old-fashioned cleaner wax that is... something with an abrasive). Scratch-X (Meguiars), swirl mark remover (very light compound) and rubbing compounds may also work (in order of increasing agressiveness).

You should always start with the least abrasive product and try it... if that doesn't work, go up one notch and try again. Check your work frequently. Rewax/seal when you are done.

All of the above is for a painted wheel. Someone with alloy experience will have to help you with those... I'm out of my depth on that subject.
