How many people wax their wheels? I am going to this week and I wonder if I am nuts. There are some that do...I know who you are

I just waxed my wheels with Mother's wheel polish last week....It supposed to protect the wheels from brakedust and make cleaning the wheels easier...I figured it couldn't hurt and it does make the brake dust come off my white wheel better.

I was thinking of using regular wax instead of wheel wax. Do you know what the difference is?

I was reading a tirerack article about waxing wheels and it dawned on me that I just paid almost $1100 for these wheels so I better take care of them.

It would not suprise me to find that we owners of white wheels have a higher proclivity to waxing our wheels than others.

I wax my wheels at least twice a year with several coats of synthetic wax. I then put a coating of Aerospace 303 protectant on them. Cleaning them usually only requires a rinse with a hose...but, being an@l retentive, I usually give the surface a light agitation with a soft brush. I can't remember what wax I last used (Mother's?) but I will be trying Klasse on my wheels this spring.

Wheels are subject to higher temperatures that the body panels so most "natural" waxes will tend to not last as long as the synthetic waxes. I would assume that products labeled "wheel waxes" would be formulated from a synthetic base.

I have actually taken my wheels off a couple times this winter to clean the inside...I know, I'm nuts.

I have always used regular car wax on mine, but since I got the MINI, I've been using Zaino on the body and that's what I've put on the wheels. It does seem to make them easier to clean.

I've been waxing wheels for years. It makes cleaning them so much easier.

Waxing wheels definately makes them easier to clean and keeps them cleaner looking longer.

I would think that 'wheel wax' has a higher melting point or something to that effect... something to survive being near high temperature brake components.

You aren't nuts for removing the wheels to clean them. If you can get the inside, you don't get that nasty bit of brake dust dripping down the sides of your white painted S lites.

I just Zaino 'em.

Will NXT work on my wheels? I happen to have a full bottle of it and thought it would be a great place to start using it. The wheels are coming off the car tomorrow and I'll wax them while the little guy is in the shop for warranty repairs.

Sure, it will work. Just keep in mind that while NXT is a bit more durable than a regular caunauba it is not as durable as a heat resistant polymer like Zaino or Klasse. You just will have to refresh it more often for best results.

Thanks for the info. I think it should be good for now until I can get some better stuff. Then I can do it all over again.

I bought wheel wax from Alex and applied it about one month ago. I just washed the car and wheels and the dirt came off so easy! Didn't try zaino but I am about to order the Z1 and Z2 along with some pads and maybe the tire dressing and quick detailer.

Thanks to all for the replies!

I got no white wheels.
I do wax the wheels I do have.
Wheel wax is what I use.
It's durable enough.
And it smells good too!
Wax on.

Wife walked in the other day as I was waxing my white S-lites (have X-lites on the car now) in the living room (while watching the tube.) I wish I had a picture of her face.

After being thoroughly admonished for not moving the rug (I *did* put an old sheet down first) I continued with Meguiar's #2 in a slow, but successful attempt to get the spotted brake dust of 22K miles from the PO off of those wheels. Not an easy task!

The paint (powdercoat?) on the wheels seems pretty hard, so it didn't seem necessary to follow up the #2 with #9.
I may have to try the Klasse - I also used the NXT I had in the garage.

It does smell good. Never thought I would say that about a wax.

Prior to my (Zaino) conversion , I applied a coat of Meguiar's cleaner wax. So far it's holding up pretty well. However, when I rotate the tires at 5000 miles, off comes the Meguiar's and on goes the Zaino.

Waxing the wheels seems kinda nuts to some, but it does protect the finish and makes it easy to keep them clean. Once you've done it, you won't go back.

Adding it to my list. Cleaning the tires takes as long as the rest of the car.

I use Klasse All-In-One and Gloss Sealant on my silver wheels. Works good and, as Brad says, is heat resistant.
