Cleaning Space Grey cloth seats?

I am sure I am going to shock a lot of people, but I eat fast food in my car.

Anyone have any tips for removing greasy stains from Space Grey cloth seats? I see all sorts of upholstery cleaners in the auto parts stores. Most of them say something like, "Test this on a hidden area first."

That SG cloth has a sort of sheen to it that I don't want to damage. Thanks!

Cleaning Space Grey cloth seats.

An airline hostess put me on to club soda for cleaning. Clean a square at a time, wet the whole square with the soda on your hands, pat it on till wet. Place a clean white towel on the spot and let it dry. Maybe 3-4 hours at 60f.
The soda will wick to the edges of the panel and push the stain towards the thread border.
I have a 2005 MCS Pure Silver w/space grey seats and have used this method twice. Once, when the dealer washed the car with the window cracked down a bit. It cleared the soap stain completely.
Good luck.

I haven't used it but have all good things about 303 Fabric cleaner, which is supposedly safe for all fabrics.

I have used 303 Upholstery cleaner on a number of fabric mishaps and have found nothing better.

Thanks for the tips, everyone!

Since I've got some club soda here in the house, I'll try that first. I've used it for things like red wine on the carpet in our living room (works great, BTW!) but didn't know it also worked on greasy stuff. Here goes nuthin'!

I keep hearing good things about 303 products. My credit card still hasn't recovered from the Zaino kit I bought a while back, but it looks like Autopia is going to be the next big "hit" on my card!

Come out here to Sacramento when it's 110 F and I'll show you Exhibit B in the case for cloth!

Gonzo?!? Where do you get that? HunterThompson.com? SesameStreet.com?

Oh - I see. Linen and Things.

(Linen and Things carries a product called "Gonzo"???)

Thanks for the tip!

So that would be your smelly, sweat permeated cloth seats complete with crusty salt stains? No thanks.

I believe he was thinking of:

Huh? Oh yeah... that sizzling sound? That only happens when a passenger wears shorts and climbs into a car with leather(ette) on a sunny, 110 degree day. That's the sound of Exhibit B: your skin frying, melting and adhering to the black seat. I keep a spatula in the glove compartment, in case you ever want to get out...

Well, to get this thread back on track...

I went to Linens and Things and asked the salesgirl where I could find Gonzo. She had never heard of it, but told me where the cleaning supplies section was. As I recall there were at least three different bottles - a large one, a small one, and a spray that I think was a different formula specifically for carpets.

I went with the small (8 oz) bottle for ($2.99!) and followed the instructions - apply to a clean, white cloth, dab and rub, then dry by blotting with another clean, white cloth.

Wow - seats look brand new! A big THANKS and a to umberto!

I was just going to make a post about this same problem, and then I found this thread. Cosmic.

I've tried an Oxy Clean product called Oxy Kic. It worked somewhat. I'll have to look for that Gonzo.

Does Jim Henson's estate get royalties for that?

Gonzo

Gonzo stain remover (purchased at Linen and Things) - worked perfectly on grey space cloth (seed pod/grass stains).

Thanks for the recommendation!

Not the carpet stain remover.

I found three types of Gonzo at Linen and Things. Carpet stain remover in a spray bottle, pet stain remover in a spray bottle, and "Stain Remover" in small (8 fl oz) and large sizes. Not spray, just a bottle with a small dispenser nozzle (see attached photo). There are instructions on the bottle for use on clothing, rugs, upholstery, vinyl, and to pre-treat laundry.

I actually applied Gonzo directly to the stain on the grey space cloth and then rubbed pretty hard with a cotton cloth to extract the stain. Then I blotted up the excess cleaner fluid. Needed two repeats to fully remove the stain.
