Winter blues

Winter is here in a big way, snow almost everyday, and the temps go from from 32F down to 0 F or lower.Washing the car is not possible outside, and the local wand wash has closed.I do stop on the way home at a wand wash in the city,or take it through a touch less car wash at the gas station I go to once a week. The car is ALWAYS dirty, but washing twice a week is keeping the salt off it.Just have to grin and bear it I guess and hope it's clean before we get down to -20F and lower, cause then washing means everthing is frozen, even if you try and dry it

I feel your pain. We haven't had too much of a freeze yet here in Indiana, but still pretty darn cold to wash outside. Currently I am boiling the water for my soap and rinse buckets and using a dry suit glove to handle the hose. But I know this will only work for about another 2 weeks, and then it will be just too darn cold. Still the price we pay to keep our Coopers clean.

I got up at 6:00 AM this morning to wash my MINI before work. The MINI thermo showed a chili 62 degrees ! Aloha folks! Honolulu now has our annual winter weather! Time to break-out the Columbia ski gear!

Merry Christmas!

Yeh, what he said!

Forecast for Indy tomorrow is possible snow and highs at 35. I guess no Cordy washing for me. Damn shame too, she is pretty dirty.

Well it's actually supposed to be 50 deg here in Boston today...so I'm contemplating washing the car...But it's supposed to snow/rain/sleet on Mon. Do I enjoy it for 2 days? I say yes!

I agree, even if it's just for a few days, it is worth the effort to the keep the Cooper clean. Our snow turned out to just be really fricken cold rain. Now it is at least somewhat dry and cold out. So I have the kettle on the stove for some hot water, and then I will be out washing.

all MINI clean freaks rejoice, i just heard about this product called protects all quick and easy wash from the autopia forums. Supposedly it's good to use in the winter because if you can get in a garage or anything you can wash your car even when it's cold. Basically you just need a bucket of water with the solution in it, wash mitt, and towels. You clean the car similar to using normal soap, but no pre-rinse and no after rinse. The solution is such that you don't need to rinse it and it's still good. I plan on doing a quick undercarriage spray to get rid of the salt and major dirt then do the quick and easy wash in the garage.

read all about it here:

http://autopia.org/forums/showthread...t=qew+write+up

get it either at campingworld.com or protectcsall.com you can order online or look at the retailer locator to get it locally.

You people in the All Year Sun Belt sure have a sick sense of humor........ expect to be officially indicted soon. I suggest that you use a 'heat stroke' defense
and enter a plea of temporary insanity.

I can't stand dirty cars and will wash them weekly (if not more) during bad weather no matter the temperature.

My detached garage is heated but I only keep it at around 45-50 degrees when the weather is cold. That keeps the chill off the cars and all my detailing products don't freeze.

It takes about 15 minutes to get the temp up to 70 degrees so I only crank it up when I want to work out there or wash the cars.

The garage has a large drain so I can wash inside. I have mixing valve designed on the inside of my house where I attache the garden hose. I can adjust the water temp by adding some hot water to the cold. It's sooooo much nicer to wash in the winter with warm water. Makes drying easier/faster as well.

So, I have a system worked out but it's still not fun in the winter!
