Spray On Paint Chip Protection
Spray On Paint Chip Protection
Has anyone used this type product for protection from paint chips/road rash?

Review sounds like it would be fairly easy to apply by a relitive novice but I wonder if a professional paint shop could do this and be more cost effective than a shop that hand applies the protective film (very difficult and time consuming requireing at least two or more to do)?
I've tried the hand applied film some years back and it was a real pain and would never attempt that again.
I guess a traditional bra would work ok for short turm protection while on the highway where chips usually occure.
Any thoughts?

I used the 3m product. There are mixed reviews out there if you google it but I really had no problems.
Take your time. Follow the instructions. Get the spray handle. It is a must. The key is continuous spray. No start/stop spraying like you are used to if you have painted before. Each spray stroke is about 6 seconds. Do a small area, side to side, up and down, side to side. Goes on milky wet.
I didnt get any clumps or snot ***** as others have called it. It cleared in about 2 hours. At that time I did notice a couple of spots on the lower bumper that had run and showed some sag. Not bad enough for me to take it off and do it again.
I did the entire front bumper with one kit which is the spray, wax, tape, drop cloth, and handle for like $45. I still have maybe a 1/2 can left but no wax. I am going to buy another can which comes with wax for my hood.
Much cheaper than film. If it lasts a year, I will still come out ahead of a film covering even if I replace it yearly. I full bumper and partial hood in my area is $750 regardless of brand you choose.
Already had my bumper repainted for rock chips. This is cheaper and looks good enough for me.
You can get this off the shelf at autozone.
I don't think a paint shop would do a good job. They can paint in their sleep. This isn't paint. You have to spray it on in the complete opposite as to what you have been taught about painting. Time is money to them, I doubt they are going to look at the instructions at all.
