Damn Birds!!
OK,
Last Saturday, clayed the MINI and applied two coats of Zaino. Sunday, two more coats of Zaino, followed by the Gloss Enhancer. Lookin good! Came out for lunch on Monday, and the car was COVERED in big, green bird poops. I hadn't parked under any trees or wires, so it must have been a "fly by" attack. Luckily, it came right off with a damp towel. Did a touch up with the Gloss Enhancer and it looked just as good as before. On the way home, stuck in 2 mph traffic, a Boxter S owner asked what I had used on the car, it was so shiny.
Clean Again...

The Zaino stuff is absolutely unreal! My Chili Red MCS has at least 10 coats (Applied to extra coats Saturday) of Z2 and the shine and depth is amazing...the car looks like just washed.
Z6 Gloss enhancer does the final trick. It blends with the Z2 to optically enhance the gloss of the paint finish. I have also discovered that Z6 works wonders with the chrome bits in the car.

A clay bar is actually spcially treated clay (Like child's Play Doh) to remove embedded contaminants from your car's finish (Rail dust, tree sap, industrial fallout, etc) that won't come off with ordinary washing/waxing methods.
These contaminants if left untreated can eat away your clearcoat and make it to the paint basecoat. the presence of these contaminants can be seen as very small and tiny "rust spots" on your clearcoat and can be felt when running the palm of your hand over the finish......the finish feels 'rough" to the touch.
When you run the clay bar, it picks up these contaminants like magic! leaving your finish mirror smooth to the touch and perfectly clean.
Claying is highly recommended for cars that don't live under a cover (Or garage) or cars that are exposed to harsh operating enviroments. it is a good idea to clay the car before polishing/waxing to ensure the best adgesion of wax coating possible.
There are different brands of claybars but essentially, all of them are the same. You can pick up one for US$15 at your local autoparts store. These are typically good for 2 or 3 applications at the max.
The most popular brand is Clay Magic:

Hope this helps!

Last year I had two separate "fly by" incidents, but it was during work and my MINI was parked outside under the hot summer sun. Yup, the stuff was baked on. After work, as soon as I saw the violation, I cleaned it up. In spite of my best efforts though, the paint (or clear coat) looked badly etched and I was extremely bummed.
Very strange thing happened though. Time passed...and after a few washes...and probably a few shots of quick detailer in between, I suddenly noticed one day after a wash that the mark was gone!! I couldn't find it! Vanished! Now, as I said, this happened of two separate occasions. Isn't that weird?!?!?!?! Any possible explanations?!?!?
(btw, the birds have been kind to me this year.....so far.)

I always keep quick detailer(Einmans Pearl)in the car with a microfiber towel for bird attacks. Don't want it to be on to long. Be careful not to scratch clear coat removing bird stuff.
