Product / technique ideas for dull finish, not oxidized, just "detail" gone wrong?
Hope one or more of the detailing gurus here can offer a thought or two on how best to save the finish on my daughter's Camry.
She was over last night, and suddenly her well-traveled white 2000 Camry is...dull. As in, flat finish, like the new BMW "frosted" / matte finishes. She said her [well-meaning] bf had "detailed" it for her, lots of hand work with a substance and applicator of some type. And now: no gloss. Except in the few spots he missed.
I haven't yet been able to quiz him on what exactly he used or how.
I cleaned off a spot or two to make sure it wasn't just some dried wax or other product. I tried some Meguiar's 151 on my PC / orange pad in one place, but it didn't do a lot for it. I don't own anything more drastic than Prima Swirl at the moment, which I didn't get to try last night but I'm sure isn't meant to deal with finish this far gone.
I can't imagine the bf managed to remove the whole clear coat layer, but it's no longer glossy. Should I go at it with Prima Cut, or what might you all suggest?
Thanks for any help. I thought to just ask, versus buy/try a dozen products on my own.

Maybe try clay on a spot or two to get a handle on what will work.
You may simply have to clean what he put on the paint.
If that does nothing keep being more aggressive with cleaners (Simple Green, Stronger SG, WD40, Goof Off)
Use a spot on the paint that does not show as much, low on a fender.
Stay on the one spot rather than moving around the car so you understand what works.
Good luck.
