Suggestions on the proper way to clean the Power Steering Fan?

Hi,

I want to clean my power steering fan (06 MC), and wondered if someone has some specific advice on how to do this most effectively.

I've searched the forum and G and found a lot of info on the fan in general, but nothing specifically about the ideal method(s) to clean it.

Thank in advance.

Is it apart or still in the car? For a Fan I would think that a can of Air would work ok, not sure the point of cleaning a Fan but ok??!! What ever method you try post some feedback, I'm sure this would help someone else wanting to do the same thing!!

It's on the car at the moment. I was hoping to learn more about a cleaning procedure before pulling it off.

I've got a minor oil drip ahead of the fan that is creating a bit of a mess on the fan itself, which is why I posted the cleaning question originally.

The fan is spinning freely, there's just a bit of oil and dirt accumulation on and around the fan. At this point all I've done is spray a bit of Griot's engine cleaner around the area to remove the oil accumulation (not on the fan itself). Using a rag I wiped down the fan assembly. I flushed the fan with water, realizing that doing so might not be ideal.

Given the reality that some oil will surely have worked its way around the fan itself, I want to clean it properly and thoroughly sooner than later. Given that the blades are spinning well I'm not overly concerned, however.

In that case, with a mess like that you'll want something with a little more cleaning power...you might try a 50/50 Solution of Simple Green and Water in a spray bottle, once off the car you could spay on the Simple Green and then use a Toothbrush to clean the area.

Hope this helps!!
