Did I damage the clear coat paint on car?

I removed the boot vinyl stripes yesterday but there was wax build up on the edge of the strip after removal. I used goo gone and rubbed it hard to remove the wax build up. It took a bit of time of goo gone, rubbing with paper towel, goo gone again and rubbing with the paper towel. Then I used Gold Class wash, rinse and then dried.

Did i damage the clear coat from doing this?

Probably not except for the scratches you undoubtedly put there by using paper towels!

You can't see it?

Chances are you scratched the clear coat quite a bit. A little polish & all will be well.

In the future, NEVER use a paper towel on a cars paint, very bad. Goo-gone is also not the best on paint. A little polish, quick detailer, or even a bit of new wax would have removed the build up.

hell it can't be as abrasive as the snow shovel I used on the finish a few years ago...

still shed a tear once in a while over that one --

Cheers,

Charlie
