Car cover is letting water in
I spent quite a bit of money on an Ultraguard car cover (around $200), but I've found that when it rains the car is still left quite damp. Is it really supposed to be like this? I know it's supposed to be breathable, but I just wasn't expecting it to be so wet. Does anyone have any insights on this? If you know specifically about Ultraguard, then all the better.
Breathable refers to the fabric's ability to let moisture out from under the cover, not keep it from going in. This allows the cover to be put on a wet car if necessary.
The only cover material I'm aware of that's "waterproof" is Tyvek (made by DuPont). But, waterproof means any water that gets under the cover stays there, and, if left on for an extended period of time (and affected by heat) can cause mold. The moisture from under the cover can even come from the ground up, while the vehicle is sitting (air movement, humid air flowing under the car, etc.).
I use Evolution material (made by Kimberly Clark) and have no qualms with the small amount of moisture.
A cover's main purpose is to protect from environmental fallout and damage from door dings, etc.
Hope this helps.

Thank you forrest. I guess its doing its job then. Next time it rains, I think I'll leave the cover on and not drive it for a while just to see how good it is at letting the moisture out.
Cheers.
Cheers.
