Yes I've searched the archives, but I see a lot of products/methods/procedures for removing caked on brake dust. I have quite a bit that seems to be mildly etched into the finish.
So what is the BEST way to remove all of that gunk on my wheels?
I'd like to hear personal accounts of people that have had a full turnaround on a neglected wheel
Thanks!

Simplegreen works eh? I'll try that out.
Also thanks for the wheelset response
I'd rather not spend a bunch of money on some new wheels at the moment though.

As previously stated - Simple green, full strength - but I would add one more thing.
After spraying the rims let them sit for about 15 minutes. The stuff takes a few minutes to soak in and get to the surface of the wheel. Be careful not to use any abrasive pads. Let the solution to most of the work. More than one application may be necessary. Less hard scrubbing you do the better the finish you will have when completed.
