Wow, which insurance company are you going with? I just checked with mine(Progressive) and the addition of the new 09 Clubman will cost $379 for 6 months for $500 deductible and $599 for 6 months for $100 deductible. That is with the multiple car discount too! Ouch. x.X

Nothing is worse than Singapore. They executed a man for having a teensy fraction of cocaine! Nice extremely barbaric society Singapore is.

Agreed. This guy is getting off way too easy for this senseless criminal act.

Wow! What a drama.

So, how did the repairs work out?

I was keyed once (non-MINI) and it sucks. I made an insurance claim and the re-paint was good, but the blend just never looked quite "right". When the light hit it a certain way you could just tell, and the new blue had a touch too much purple in it....... Hope things worked out for you!

Wow, nothing can follow MiniO's amazing story here, but just wanted to say that I've also discovered just this morning that my Mini got keyed as well. The car's 2 years old, and it's already endured a broken passenger side window, still has a 6" crack on the windshield, and has a couple dents and scratches from God knows what type of inconsiderate idiots out there. So, I've come to accept the fact that it's no longer as perfect as new, but this key scratch has pushed my demoralization to new heights. It's a deep one too, went through all the paint, and all 3' of it was mostly confined to the driver side rear panel. Ugh, why couldn't they have done it on the driver door, which already had another scratch on it? Makes me wonder if I should finally move to an apartment that has off-street parking.

I don't understand people sometimes. How senseless. I return someone's lost wallet last week, and this is what I get.

If it makes you feel any better 5 weeks ago my car was parked on the street on Long Island and some jackass tried parallel parking and cut it too quickly - needless to say they didn't leave a note and I needed to have the bumper cover repaired ~ $800 - did I mention the car was only 20 days old?

remember it's only a car (did I just say that?) and it can be fixed.

Strangely I don't think that'll make you feel better now that I think about it.

What are you talking about? I've read books about how their laws work. A caning can be issued for anything, not just violent crimes. A caning can be issued for vandalism, minor trespassing, breaking curfew. Have you seen a caning? It's nothing like what the media show. It's gory and impossible to stomach. They flog the person until his buttocks are bleeding everywhere. Amnesty International likes to bash the US for human rights. In Singapore, a man was executed for having a tiny amount of cocaine despite worldwide protests. I don't see how the punishment fits the crime. Now, back to our regular scheduled programming....

Actually, I'm no longer upset about the incident. I just make sure not to think about why someone would do that, and instead, just accept that it's been done. I do have a question, however:

I've filed a claim with my insurance company (21st Century). I'm still waiting to receive a call from someone who will appraise the damage, I suppose. Because I'm certain the panel will have to be repainted, I'm most comfortable with the idea of taking it to the dealer body shop, knowing they'll have the right color paint, and will reapply the sealant that came with the car. Nevertheless, I'm not sure if the insurance will cover the dealer's quote for the repair.

Therefore, I'd like to know if any of you have any thoughts or suggestions about this. I'm new to this whole process, so I'm not sure what steps I should be taking to ensure that I take the car to the right place. Thanks for any help!

Definitely call your Dealer...they may need to look at the car in order to give you an accurate estimate.

I was rear ended in my Dodge Durango and did not hesitate to have the a dealer repair it, I purchased it used btw. The first shop I took it to gave me an estimate that stated, "Non-OEM materials may be used in this repair"...or something to that affect. No way in "H-E-Double Toothpicks" was I going to let someone replace the rear bumper with anything other than OEM parts(.)
