nope....my car was parked on street nothing between my car and the curb.
People just suck. Screwing up my car was the only intention of this pond scum.

You got me to change to $100 deduct.
It costs me about $30 a year. Best move I have made in a long time.

MINIFVR: Hope it never happens to you.

melman8r: Thanks for the recommendation it is greatly appreciated. unfortunately it is not that close to me. I need some where close to my job or apartment. This is my only car and I still need to get to work and don't want to pay for rental. I am going to ask my dealer for one in my immediate area.

Honestly, thanks to everyone that responded. This community is beyond belief the greatest! I am looking forward to meeting some area fellow motorers once the wounds have been healed.

I can really relate to this thread... I had a 95 tbird prior to the Mini Clubman S that I have now. It was my first car and I babied it for 5 years like it was my own child. It's been keyed with minor damage three times (less than 3 inches and not TERRIBLY deep), and once REAL bad across the hood onto the front driver side fender. You can actually tell that the person was walking because the key bobs up and down like they were doing it casually as they walked by. WOW did that one tick me off...I'm still angry about it actually . Happened outside my house, car was on the street. And I live in a nice suburb, you'd think this crap wouldn't happen.

Also, my car got its windshield RAZORBLADED while I was working at a Tim Hortons (NEVER EVER work there btw, terrible place) a long long time ago (~2ft in length, fairly deep). Also not a happy time...

I'm fearing for my clubmans life at the moment as it is only 1 week old, and I am parking it as close as humanly possible to the house in the driveway. Needless to say, the alarm was a justified expense for me. , and once my mom gets rid of her crappy car and puts the one in the garage out on the road, I will be playing musical cars happily for as long as I'm there.

I can really relate to how it feels...some people are just out there to ruin nice things of others...its really sad.

Best of luck with the repair. Its a terrible feeling. . I'd never wish anything like this on someone else....except maybe the guy that flipped me off as he cut around me from 3 cars back and gave me the finger as I stalled out in the middle of an intersection on a hill the other day.

....still learning to master the MT...thanks for the patience from all!

Two months old! i've pampered that car ever sence getting it.. omg i hate people...rrrr expect a thread of my own. this seemed like a good place to vent tho... Holy crap has this taken a bizzare twist.
Turns out the restaurant has 16 cameras. Not only did they catch it on tape but they got it from multiple angles. You are nailed scum bucket.
Now this is the truely crazy part. The perp turns out to be my co-workers husband.
WTF!!!!! No rhyme or reason on this one except that he is a POS!!!(that's probably being way too nice too.)
In a way it is good though. I am getting it paid for as I told him I want $2000.00 in cash to fix this and for rental car why being repaired. If not in my hands by next week I am going to police with the video. Wouldn't have been able to do this if it was a stranger. Needles to say though things at work are a bit tense. I feel real sorry for the wife though. No knowledge of this what so ever. Stay tuned for updates!!!

OMG!!! That is awesome! You are one lucky person that the cameras actually were WORKING. I do however, feel sorry for the wife. I can't even imagine how she must feel. I'd love to know WHY he felt he needed to do that to YOUR MINI.... Can't wait to hear more updates on this one!!

no real reason at all. He said it was his "rage"(???) and the alcohol.
Complete BS. Probably just jealousy. Who knows?
I have given him until Tuesday next week to pay.
If I don't have $ on Tuesday morning I will go to the police station at lunch.
So much for a stress free Birthday weekend.
will keep this updated. Thanks!

Well, I have to say I never saw *that* twist coming!

Sadly, I think you're going to have to get the police involved. I'd be willing to bet that the segment of society that would key someone's car doesn't have a lot of members that are also willing/able to cough up $2000 in a week.

Is the $2000 figure based on a repair estimate you've had done, or just an off-the-cuff figure?

Also, were you having dinner with your co-worker and her d-bag husband that night, or was this just a freaky "it's a small world" thing?

Oh, and +1 on getting lucky that the restaurant had good cameras in working order. All the times I've had to wade through surveillance footage, it's always been such lousy quality that I wouldn't have recognized my own mother if she had a sign around her neck.

was at a company dinner. About 25 people.
He has said that I will have the money on Tuesday as he doesn't want police record and it would cost him more in the long run if they are involved. (i.e police record, civil judgement on credit report, my lost wages and court costs for all the running around.) Plus he has absolutely no defense. It is clear as day him on the video and he also left a 10 minute long rambling message apologizing on my machine. The video look like a Monday Night Football replay. Multiple angles, slo-mo.
No way out of this for him.
I got an estimate. It was over a $1,000.00 plus rental car for week to 10 days is approximately $400 to $500 in wonderful NJ. Built in a couple of $100 just in case job ends up costing more then the estimate.

Glad you caught the guy. That's absolutely ****** up, though. Wow.

My hesitation...this sounds like extortion to me, even though he obviously did you wrong and legitimately owes you the money. I think going about it this way is a little sketchy. I say take the video to the cops and go from there.

But, regardless of how you deal with it, I hope you get things taken care of and this slimebag gets a criminal record one way or the other.

Good decisions !

Now, don't come back to me and ask me for your $30 if you don't have any comp claims this year.

Think about it though... you would have to go 14 years without a comp claim for this to become a bad financial decision.

And given all the different causes of loss that fall under Comp coverage, that is extremely unlikely.

Naw, I consider paying for insurance and not using it a good deal. I don't want the bad luck which makes insurance a good financial deal.

I had just been told there would be a MUCH bigger difference with a higher deduct. I have gone 20 years without a claim and just consider myself lucky.

20 years without a comp claim ??

That would even be an excellent record for no Collision claim but for a Comp claim... that's nothing short of miraculous !

giving him until Tuesday morning was too generous! Only asking for $2000 was also a bit generous as well. You are really being nice to him! I admire your restraint, good will, and generosity. I would not be nearly as generous!!

I recently broke up with a girl friend that turned out to be similar to the girl in "swim fan". Every guy and lesbian has probably dated someone like her before in their lives. She was preceeded everywhere she went with drama and was always stirring up more drama! She was jealous of the time I spent on NAM and jealous of my car even before I took delivery. We broke up just before I took delivery of my mini and I was sure she would key my new car just to get back at me because I "abandoned" her. Thankfully she did not and things are settling down since she moved in with her sister in Missouri. I still worry that she will see my mini parked somewhere and will key it just to spite me because she felt betrayed for me breaking up with her. Some people.

Anyways, I feel your pain and Kudos to you for being soooo generous with time and money!

Thanks for the support!
Well I now have the cash from the guy and my car is scheduled for repair Sept. 2nd. I will be without it for about a week. Will be driving a NEON during that time.
This is going to be as hard as waiting for it to arrive in US.
Wish me luck!

WOW!! That was quite a drama I am glad to hear that you are going to get your baby fixed. Did the wife ever say anything to you? Sucks that you have to drive a NEON what a downgrade
