Hydro vs Banana gloss?
Hydro vs Banana gloss?
So, I've read a few of the newer threads on DP's Banana gloss and am wondering how it compares to Hydro.
At the GWR, i won a raffle for a Starter Bundle Kit. I was planning on adding hydro to the order since i've been putting it off forever, when i noticed banana gloss in the "new products" section.
Can someone please tell me some of the advantages to hydro vs BG and vice versa? I dont want to buy them both right now...which??

Hydro - Very easy to use, safe on trim, hides swirls and makes your MINI look great!

Hi Luck219,
Do you remember seeing my Mini, Tug, at the GWR500? He was the one with the giant event stickers on his quarter glass. He is also the one I was digging through looking for the GC that you won.
He was wearing 2 fresh coats of Hydro from about 11pm the night before the event.
I'm going to order some Banana Gloss in the next few days because it lasts longer than Hydro but with the same ease of use according to what I've read. I strongly suggest clay-barring the car first then wash, then Epic, then Banana Gloss and then Hydro if you are so inclined. Trust me, it's an obsession!

As Warped said, Banana Gloss lasts longer... about two months, Hydro is good for a couple of weeks.
And BG has a touch of Carnuba in it so it'll make your shine look deeper, especially when used on a dark color.

Great, so i'm back where i started! :-P
I didn't know you knew it was me... although, i posted that i won so i guess you could put two and two together.

Maybe i'll go with the gloss since i have a dark color then... (d/s)...hmm...

You can absolutely use them together. In fact, most of the NAMmers here that use BG probably use Hydro, too. Me... I prefer Speed Shine as my QD (quick detailer spray) because, like BG, it has a small amt of Carnuba in it.
I, for one, don't buy into this "BG for dark colors" concept. I am a Primaholic and, with the excellent tutoring from lotsie, have done the whole Mystique, clay, Amigo, Epic and regular use of Hydro routine. I got my first bottle of Banana Gloss and the difference is night and day. My Pepper White has NEVER kooked better and it is SO easy to use. Yes, Pepper Whites can look amazing with Banana Gloss also.

I ordered some BG last night as well as some Amigo and Nero.
I don't always have the time to put Epic on Tug but there's no excuse for not using some Hydro with every wash. If BG is anything like what everyone says, Tug will look even more stunning. Below is a picture of him at the GWR500 event last weekend that one of our club members took. Believe it or not, he hasn't had Epic in over a year and he has a pretty good coat of dust on him in this picture.

What I was trying to say is that the deepness it gives darker colors is exceptional.
Sorry... you don't get that kind of deepness with PW. I should know, don't you think ?
Two Items :
I'm new to this Prima line too, but have loved the Hydro, Clarity and Slick since trying them this summer. How does the Banana Gloss compare to Slick, Im wondering now that I have a gallon of it? I use it after Hydro and a wash when I have the leisure to baby my baby.
Previously I used NuFinish wax :-( ! and I still haven't got all the white wax out of my black trim! I've tried a few products to little avail. Anyone have an idea

Banana Gloss is a short-lasting wax, generally about two months, or so I hear. It's got some carnuba in it.
As for the trim, I got some Black Wow recently and have been very impressed with the results. Highly recommended and many others here would agree.
The more I use the Banana Gloss, the more I L O V E it !!
Wow, easy to put on, easy to take off, and makes dark paints appear so deep, you feel like diving into it like it's a pool of colored water.

I bought some banana gloss and hydro with my free bundle pack that i won from DP at the GWR500 event. I still haven't used it though. My plan was to actually use it this afternoon so i can show off my MINI to lots of family this weekend - but we'll see how the weather goes.

These are both great maintance products. I've Hydro'd for about 18 months now after every wash and am still working on my sample of BG. I think I've gone around the car with BG about 4 times and it only takes about 15 minutes to get that freshly waxed look. I would get both, Hydro after each wash and BG once every month or two. Get something for the trim too.
Before these products I was pulling out the polisher every couple months
But if you have to pick one get Hydro

what applicators are typically used for hydro and for bg?
also, if i have slick, hydro and bg... can slick be used in addition to hydro and bg? If so, what lineup should i use? I've never used any of the products.... have them, just never used them yet. =)

all right. I'll toss in my newb question, too: what about Meguiar's No. 7? Can that be put on top of Epic and/or Hydro? Don't beat me up for adding confusion, please. It's just that M No. 7 is widely available from your local auto supply store and Prima products must be mail ordered - and with shipping costs, it does not make sense to order that alone. BTW I have used Swirl, Amigo, Epic on my car and am very very pleased with the results. Thx.
So Hydro is for use while you dry after a wash. I am a waffle weave addict and use them for drying. Takes one or two to dry/Hydro the whole car. To apply BG, I use a DP skinny pad, and remove with a Monster Fluffy.
Slick is a quick detailer. Good for getting light dust off, or a spot of tar or bird crap.
Hydro is wax-while-you-dry. So you wash your car, and then spray VERY lightly on each panel, then dry it.
BG is good intermediate wax. Not as long-lasting as Epic, but longer lasting than Hydro.
So how I do things (order of operations):
Full detail maybe twice/three times yearly, with full application of Epic.
Every 6 weeks or so, application of BG.
Every wash, application of Hydro.
Slick for cleaning "touch-ups" as above, when washing is not appropriate or necessary for the problem.

Just wanted to add that BG holds up very well, my car had nothing but BG on it and after sending my car for repair at the dealership they put it through the wash at mini.
The car came back to me with 0 swirl marks, and shiny as can be. It looked like the car had just been waxed.
