Black Trim (Trim Renew) Question

Hi everybody,

After giving Ripp a good cleaning last week, I used a fairly liberal amount of Trim Renew on all of my trim (and made it look real good). This week, we had some hella rains, and when I looked at Ripp last night, all of my trim looked worn-out, with a white, chalky look to it. Did I do something wrong with the trim renew? Or did it just get washed off by all the rain? I don't know what the white stuff is, maybe it's coming from the road because it's on my windshield as well.

Help?

Dave

Nope, you've just discovered why I created Black Wow...what's you've experienced is typical of the majority of the plastic trim products on the market, they don't last long, and they conceal problems instead of actually cleaning/removing them.

Placed my order today for Black Wow and Banana Gloss...two questions: Black Wow: so I shouldn't get it on my paint? If I do, can I wait until after I get done doing all my trim before wiping off or is it better to get it right off?

Banana gloss: Good to go over Epic? And Hydro has the same effect on BG that it does on Epic (i.e. a deep beautiful shine?) BG I guess is as good as Epic, but doesn't last as long? Just curious if one is better than the other or how that works out....

The only reason to keep BW off the paint is because it's not a simple matter of wiping it off. A clean MF towel and some Clarity or a QD with some patience will get it off. Just don't use that towel to wipe the paint again because you'll transfer what you removed back to the paint! Use the included Trim Masking card and sesame seed sized drops and there really shouldn't be any issue with getting it on the paint.

Yes you can wait until you're all done applying to remove it--it won't harm the paint.

I see BG fitting between Epic and Hydro. Hydro being the easiest to apply and least durable. Epic being the most effort to apply among the three, but longest lasting. BG being nearly as easy to apply as Hydro, but offering greater durabillity but less than that of Epic.

I've had BG on my MINI for a couple of months now, and it still beads/sheets water nicely.

I'll let Heather answer the other questions.

When did it become sesame seed-sized from pea-sized???

Good change though ... pea-sized is sometimes still too much.

What if I get BW on freshly waxed paint? Would it still be difficult to get off?

i think OG realized after trying the KIWI pads that you dont need
so much product.

you would want to get some alcohol to remove BW and wax and just
re-wax the area.

Nothing new really. =) Btw, still not using or fond of the Kiwi pads, lol.

For quite awhile. Probably since Ken first mentioned it. If you look at the Trim Masking cards that I made after last MITM (thanks to Chuck for the idea), I changed the instructions to include sesame seed sized drops.

What makes BW difficult to come off is that it looks like an oily smudge. You wipe it, and it spreads. So using a clean towel constantly turned to expose new towel with some QD or Clarity seems to be the best way to remove it.

IMO, you don't want BW easy to come off--that's why it lasts such a long time compared to other products that easily wipe off.

Is there a special adapter for the BW bottle to dispense sesame-sized portions?

Sure, there is a special add-on that's available here in the detailing 101 forum at no cost! Once you read it, your fingers will automatically apply just enough pressure to squeeze a sesame seed sized amount.
