Scratch on the A Bar

I have a couple gouges in the driver side A bar. I was thinking I could fill them with a clear epoxy, as when it is wet it looks black? Anyone have ideas?

I'm not sure if there is a good fix for that other than replacing the piece (I think you mean the "A-pillar" plastic trim piece).

I would think that you are going to have a hard time working with the epoxy and keeping it neat. You might end up with a mess afterwards. There might be some plastic filler type of thing that you could sand down after filling.

Others might have some experience with this.

Oh, here's one thread that might help:

Depends on how deep the "gouge" is... They are relatively soft plastic - bad news is that they scratch/swirl easily. Good news is that they're easy to polish out! I would NOT try to fill one with epoxy, personally. I'd either use a polish like Prima Swirl with a random orbital buffer to reduce the edges on the scratch/gouge to minimize the appearance of it, or just buy a new A-pillar. They're about $40 each.

You might also be able to wetsand it a bit, then polish it out. Not sure how well the plastic will respond to that. I wouldn't try it unless I was prepared to buy a new one if it didn't work out.

I will probably end up replacing it I figured it would be a lot more than $40. Do I need to do that through the dealer or is there a place to order them for DIY.

You can find the proper part number here: www.realoem.com

Many folks here on NAM seem to like to order from Classic MINI in Ohio.

The, the DIY instructions are here:

Good luck!
