When did DP switch from DHL to UPS?

I loved having that yellow truck coming to my door in a day or two after I ordered. Instead, I waited 4 business days for Brown to show up with my goodies. Bring back DHL

Not sure, but my order was soooo slow. it took 5 business days (7 when you include the weekend) to get mine.

Also UPS required a signiture. Is that normal? Of course I was at work when they delivered it, and I had to pick it up at a UPs location.....

I dont have any neigbors that are home to sign for it either during the day....

yah, my buddy who recently bought some stuff also commented
that their shipping was slow. he never got his tracking# like i use to get
from DHL, etc.

he's happy with the products he received though after a pretty
long wait.

Bottom line, after your first order, get refills before you really need them no matter who the shipper is

May not be DP, DHL and UPS just signed some type of agreement to share delivery. Wish I could remember but having a senior moment.

I prefer DHL as well because UPS is horrible here in LA. We actually have some evidence to back that up: My wife ships about 7000 times a year with DHL and UPS, almost evenly split. We receive about an equal amount of complaints nationwide, depending on where people live. We find we get more UPS complaints in the LA area and more DHL complaints from customers back east, but that's just us. I'm pretty sure it evens itself out over the stretch. FedEx couldn't come close to matching DHL or UPS in price vs our volume.

Yes, after many years of working with DHL, we now ship with UPS instead.

Why?

A couple of reasons...

1) DHL's price increases were zipping far ahead of UPS's price increases. Although we've had to tweak our customer shipping charges up a bit during the past year, we work hard to keep those charges as low as possible for all of you. DHL would have forced us to make much more substantial customer shipping charge increases.

2) DHL's service (on our end) was causing us considerable issues. While we have had the same UPS driver for pickups and deliveries for the entire 5 1/2 years we've been in business, our DHL driver has changed 10 times. I think this is at least partially to blame for our DHL service issues.

Although these issues have varied, the most common problem we had was that sometimes DHL just wouldn't show up, without warning, for our daily pickup... sometimes just one day and other times for several days in a row. Our pickup time is so late in the day (intentionally, so we can ship out as many orders as possible each day) that by the time we realized that we weren't getting our daily pickup, we can to really scramble to get all the packages to DHL. By "really scramble" I mean that we had to quick load up all the boxes into my truck and I had to drive all over town trying to find pickup locations outside our our driver's area (if he didn't pickup for us he didn't pickup for anyone else either!) where there hadn't yet been a pickup. Often, had to resort to driving about 45-90 minutes to the main DHL hub by the airport- usually in rush hour traffic (hence the driving time range).

So, after many years of this and other service issues, along with their above-market price increases, we decided to switch to UPS.

I apologize that in some regions DHL is favored to UPS. Indeed, we have found, as cooper8168 also pointed out, that the service of each shipper really varies depending on where you live. I do know that DHL is excellent on the receiving end in some regions. On the other hand, UPS is excellent in other regions.

Finally, I recently read somewhere that DHL, which is European-based, is not going to continue to offer services in the USA soon anyway. I don't know if it is a done-deal or just speculation, but we may have had to switch anyway.

So, again, I apologize to those who prefer DHL! In some ways, we did too... but overall the negatives really outweighed the positives.

Thanks for your understanding! Please let me know if you have any questions.

-Heather

I prefer UPS to DHL, here's why...my last order from DP and Griot's ordered same day. Pkg. 1 delivered Monday via USPS (DP)...Pkg. 2 delivered on Tuesday (1 day sooner than expected) via UPS (Griot's). I've had issues with DHL in the past so I would not use or recomend using them as a shipper. IMHO

I actually prefer USPS to any of it, but they are more expensive to ship heavier stuff.

Does anyone remember a small competitor to FedEx known as Airborne Express?? They had better rates than FedEx but were technologically inferior, and DHL swallowed them up--which I assumed was to be able to compete with FedEx in the US because I always knew DHL as an international carrier not a domestic one.

We all buy each other for the routes. Usually countries only allow so many routes/flights in that are made available to outside companies. It is the easiest way to break into a country.

USPS sucks other than for mail.

like today, my bud from burbank sent me a package on USPS priority with
delivery confirmation. i track it, it shows "delivered" at 7:34am to work.

first off, who the f- delivers a prioritymail 2-3 biz day package (not overnight express AM)
to a commercial build when it is cleary before "Business Hours" posted
at the front of the building?

box is no where to be found. im like , ask the receptionist to check
with the mailman when he comes during lunch (normal time he stops). she
asked about my package, mailman doesn't know what she's talking about.

1.5hrs later the same dork comesback and re-delivers the package. he
said he didnt want to leave the box outside the building before hours in
the morning. (then why the hell did you scan it "delivered"??!! )
better yet, why did you forget to bring it during the normal delivery?

stupid. they apparantly have no protocol.

USPS = Booooooo~! for car stuff.

UPS and FedEX is the way to go.

I love Priority Mail, especially Flat Rate Priority. Have you ever priced a shipment to Hawaii?? By regular Priority Mail it could be $30+, but if it fits in a Flat Rate box it's only $8.95. Far cheaper than any other shipping method, and delivers it within 3 days--from California.

Priority Mail also includes free boxes which is also great, and for customers in the same state, it's next day delivery for a very inexpensive price compared to FedEx Ground.

yah, that's all the cover up for poor service, it seems. it's a hit or miss
where as UPS has been consistently delivering my Griot's orders almost
every day with no issues.

Yup I sure do....once upon a long time ago I worked for a payroll processing company. ALL of our other carriers were good except Airborne - they would lose checks or come in late and they would never be able to give us information.

I guess that is why they were cheaper - those customers who chose Airborne had to sign a waiver that once the paychecks left our hands that we couldn't be held responsible for any delay.

I am thankful that DHL isn't the service used since here in the sticks of NH DHL is hit and miss for the most part. They do not guarantee any service but tend to be OK. They just seem to always be a day or 2 late when its important that things get here overnight. Oh well.

DHL is pulling out

I work for the Postal service and have it on good authority that DHL is pulling out of the U.S. because they can't make it with rising fuel costs. Also heard that UPS is going to combine some routes to cut costs. DHL is still going to operate by having other carriers deliver for them. Another one bites the dust!

We sent something out to our CS Reps back in May about DHL getting out of the market. I am a little suprised we (FedEx) didn't get their air freight. Maybe the higher-ups didn't want to clean up the mess DHL seems to have made.

"...will involve closing stations, using UPS for its airlift in the U.S., reducing it’s employee base and reducing service to some secondary markets. DHL said this restructuring reduces their infrastructure in the U.S. by almost one-third."

"DHL will use UPS for its airlift in the U.S. and will use the USPS for some "last mile" service."

Yeah I read about that. UPS and FeDex just bullied them out. I think DHL is still doing airfreight though.
