Dash Sticker
Dash Sticker
With no luck, I've been looking through the forums and threads to find an answer on how to remove the airbag warning dash sticker off the dash without scratching the plastic. The dash is chili red (in pristine shape), matching the car, so any little scratch will show. I want to be careful with this as I just bought the car a couple months ago. The complication is that it's an '06 so the sticker has been on there since then and my attempts to just peel it off are meeting strong resistance. Any suggestions?

Worst case scenario is that you get to upgrade to one of the many cool dash's available. Seriously, I understand wanting to be careful and not scratch it. But the dash parts are not that expensive and pretty easy to replace if you do. Too bad they didn't pull it at the dealer. When new, they come right off.

Try it without the hairdryer and goo gone first. Try to peel up a corner with your fingernail (it is soft enough it should not scratch the dash unless you are putting a ton of force down on the dash). Get it started and pull slowly. The slower you pull, the less likely you will be that the adhesive will come off the back of the sticker and stick to the dash. Use goo gone for any additional adhesive. I like the hairdryer idea, but is softens the adhesive and often causes it to stick worse than it would have otherwise.

As long as you don't use a sharp metal tool, you're probably not going to scratch it. Note that these pieces get "swirly" no matter what you do... a passenger just inadvertently rubbing a purse against the dash, or a well-meaning kid wiping the dust off with their hand will do that. I polish the swirls out of mine with my random orbital polisher once or twice a year when I polish the rest of the car...

Good suggestions, thank you. Can regular GooGone be used without hurting the paint? I assume it's basically the same stuff- the WalMart brand probably being a knockoff. I'm not a WalMart fan anyway and the nearest one is 20 miles away. Thanks again.

AFAIK there is no generic GooGone or Goo be Gone. Just by the name brand stuff of your choice. You could also try Windex which has only some sticky removing qualities but is not as effective or harsh.
