anyone else live in a dust bowl?
anyone else live in a dust bowl?
the orange dust out here in the socal valley is driving me nuts! i can detail the MINI (and the wife's PT) to the teeth and a few hours later it is caked in dust.
we're renting this house while saving to buy and do not have a garage so we're parked outdoors 24-7. even so, the dust out here is so bad i don't think a garage would help as much as one would think. it would help obviously but, it's not a normal situation out here. the inside of the house gets dusty pretty quick too.
i guess my concern is i wonder what type of damage this is doing to the paint. i do have a few minor swirls i cannot get out by hand and will have to PC in september (my next total detail schedule). last detail i used my usual klasse application in hopes it will minimize bad effects. but, driving off in a coat of dust can't be good. seems like the dust and the wind shear has to be bad for the paint. like a sandpaper effect and work it's way through any protective coating. my wifes silver car (she never detailed before i came along) was so saturated with the stuff that when i clayed it last weekend (first clay ever) it bled orange... literally.
i have a duster and QD but, they are of little help. i can't dust everytime i park and QD can get expensive quick. i fear that using the cali duster and/or QD too frequently on the coat of dust is going to wreck the paint over time. i don't think a cover will help because the dust is so crazy and impossible to keep off resulting in even more scratching.
any ideas? is it destroying the paint over time? so far the best WASH i have used to repel dust is the ICE wash but it still eventually builds up.

It's dusty here in the summer. Not orange dust but when the rain stops and everything dries out, there is constantly a fine layer of dust on everything.
I wash weekly, keep a good coat of wax on, and polish twice a year.
