wooww.. sorry abaout that... I used HYDRO last night for my first time and I'm nothing but impressed..OMG this thing is sick!! I used it with the DP waffle towel and the results were great, no swirl marks, deep gloss and it even covered some nasty water marks I had try to remove for months..

I am sure you will be happy like I am one day! BTW my car is Jet Black!

I would recommend trying Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer. It leaves the paint so slick and the slickness is so long lasting it's like applying another layer of NXT Tech Wax or even #21.

The only product I've heard of that is good on wet surfaces is the Eagle One Wax-as-U-Dry. Most of the other products, like the NXT Spray Wax, work better on a dry surface. I tried the NXT Spray Booster Wax, and while removal was OK, it just took more time than using it on a dry surface.

The Hydro would have probably worked better on a dry surface.

NXT Speed Detailer is very good at removing water spots as long as they are not etched into the clearcoat. I have used it to remove water spots from sprinler systems and we all know what a PITA those can be. I keep a bottle in my car for "emergencies."

If your water spots are really bad and cannot be removed with a QD, there are 3 things I would recommend. First, Klasse AIO is very good for water spot removal and it leaves behind some protection. If that doesn't work you really should use a PC with some #80, or even #83 and that is almost always effective.

It is much easier to prevent than to remove water spots. Rinse with a flow, not a hard stream or spray from the rinse hose. NXT Car Wash is very good at reducing water spotting.

In my uses Hydro is easier to work with on a wet surface (after letting the majority of the water sheet off the car).... but it is still easy on and off on dry paint.

yep, anyone with experience with Hydro will tell you, there is no
difficulty with the product wet or dry. as long as you are using a
drying MF towel if wet.

if you are having issues, read the label, call DP. there is no easier
product.

First I am so sorry to hear about your waterspots, YY MINI!

I am a definite newbie here, just took deliver on Tuesday. I had ordered some Hydro and I was actually going to wash and Hydro the car this afternoon. I was planning on using a monster fluffy to do my drying/hydo.....is this a good towel to use for the Hydro?

It'll work okay, the Hydro is so easy to work with, you could use sandpaper if you wanted. KIDDING, of course !!! Don't sue me if you try that and scratch your car !!

IMO, the Monster Fluffy is too think for that job. Save the Monster Fluffy towels for removing polish or wax. To wipe down the hydro after a wash, I prefer the waffle weave drying towel.

as mentioned several times already, use a DRYING MF towel like waffle
weave if your car's wet.

Platinum MF if dry. i too agree that the monster fluffy is too thick.
i haven't used mine for a while. only when buffing carnauba do i use it
these days.

Right, but what step of that is a wax-as-you-dry product? Your comparing apples and oranges...ANY product, when used incorrectly, can have less-than-stellar results.

This thread is giving me a headache.

For those saying "maybe it works better dry..."...the product is INTENDED to be used on a wet surface (thus the name, Hydro = WATER). I'm thinking there are a lot of people commenting in this thread who don't have first-hand experience with the product.

I can't possibly imagine what would cause the results described by the OP. I've been using Hydro for almost a year now, and this thread has me baffled. I couldn't do that with Hydro even if I TRIED to. My personal guess is the water just sat on the paint for too long and the minerals were deposited. Is your water REALLY hard?

And I think we need to have a "Microfiber Variations and Their Uses" thread.

My bet is that YY's water spots were there before using Hydro.
After washing and using Hydro the spots just became more visible. I would get your clay out and rid your paint of the offending spots. In fact I would just start over and spritz with 50/50 alcohol, then clay, then polish and wax.
But that's just me and I have nothing better to do.

I'm a longtime Hydro user who never had this water spot problem - until just the other day when washing my car in the sun at MITM. I will guarantee you that the spots are from the (too hard) water sitting on the car too long, leaving hard water spots.

I used the same technique I always use, but when at home I do the whole process in the shade. It happenned to be hot and sunny at MITM though, with no shade option. The water was left on my car for only about a minute, long enough to drive from the washing side of the lot to the drying side of the lot.

My horrible spots are all gone though, as I quickly respritzed the spots with Hydro and gently but firmly worked them all out with the waffle weave drying towel. You may want to try this, but I suspect the spots have been there too long by now.

Good luck getting those spots out, which I suspect may be when you polish next... My sugesstion would by to use some kind of filter on the hose at your new place - sounds like the water is pretty hard!

Yeah that water up at the firestation was really hard. Heather said that when they first turned the hoses on, the water was a chalky color. I worked up a sweat by drying the car as fast as I could before spots set in.

washed and Hydro'ed my Legacy over the weekend. again, half of the
roof was in the sun, but no spots. Hydro-power!

also washed my new mesh wheels with my griot's boar's hair wheel
brush and CarWash. sprited on some Hydro as i did previously and
wiped off with a paper towel. no gunk or stains. everything washed
and cleaned off in a breeze.

Hydro continues to impress.

It was the damn water!

Problem was found! My water is really hard, comparing to what I used to have!
To myself: hydro is an impressive product!
To hydro fans: Sorry for the flames, it was my bad!

I washed my SUV verrrrry carefully in a controlled environment (closed grarage), dried it with my blower. 2nd step, spray purified drinking water on my car and hydro following water, one area at a time. Dry with Platinum MF (Sorry ken/ML, don't have drying MF now.).
Result was very rewarding! The dark sparkling silver has very deep shine now! It looks even better when I parked it under the sun!

My thanks to everybody!!!

However, MINI is still a mess. I must let water air-dried somehow. I'll need to PC it with Meguiar's #80 soon.

glad you found the problem. You might want to look into Mr.Clean autodry's rinse. I believe ML uses that just for the rinse step?

Glad to hear you discovered the hard water problem! I was reading through this thread to catch up and was about to post the suggestion that it was probably the water at your new house.

Hard water can be such a major pain. As mentioned already, the water at MITM was extremely hard. You really had to move fast and/or keep respraying to keep the surface wet or you'd end up with bad water spotting that was fairly stubborn to remove.


As for the spots remaining on your MINI, I would try to remove them sooner than later. The longer they remain on the paint (especially if the car sits in the direct sun alot) the more they risk etching your paint deeper and deeper. Get rid of them as soon as you can and try to keep the paint out of the direct sun as much as you can in the meantime!

Can I find Mr.Clean autodry in target? I remember seeing one somewhere, but I didn't really like that guy. I'll look for it before I invest in another water softener in garage.
I never had this kind of hard water. I remember I left the car for 5 mins, and came back drying it, the car was still wet! Can hard water get semi-dry?

I just went out to parking lot staring at my shining SUV, hydro really brought out the true color of the paint! Amazing!

Heather, please remind me getting some drying MF with my next order before ken set me on his grill!

Yes I do use the Mr. Clean thing. I use the filtered setting only and use it for the pre-rinse before soaping up and as a final rinse before - basically whenever water might sit on the paint for a few minutes. My water at home is VERY hard and it helps. Don't use the soap though, it sucks. I got mine at Target for like $15.
