MINI detail

So I got bored last Wednesday and headed over to my friends house to wash my girl's Mini and help out my friend with her S.

Washed
Clayed
Washed
Polished
Sealed
Waxed

The Mini wasn't in bad shape because I haven't let anyone touch it since we drove out of the dealer. It had very very few light swirls and about 2 light scratches.

Before:

Taped her up:

After the Sonus Swirl Buster:

All Sealed up and Waxed:

My friends S:

Are you a police officer? Do you realize why I'm asking?

Some close ups of the beading, if it's too big I'll resize them:

Wow...the beading is cool! I get that on my car everywhere else but the bonnet. It still beads but the beads are larger than everywhere else...is this a sign of the bonnet needing more wax?

Not to take the answer away but what can you see in a clean and polished MINI that you can't in a dirty one ?

Why is beading a good thing?

Beading is cool looking. But when the water dries, concentrated dirt spots remain. Plus, mineral deposits and pits in your wax from the acidic rain.

Of course, the point of wax is to keep the damage from your paint. But can't one of our beloved detail product companies produce a wax that helps sheet the water off the car rather than beading?

Can one of our scientific MINI drivers give details? I understand the concept of surface tension which causes the beading. Correct?

Funny you ask. Meguiar's has always favored Sheeting Water over Beading, but too many people complained that NXT Tech Wax was gone after one day because it no longer beaded after it was applied--not realizing that it was designed to sheet water.

After many many years of this, I believe they succumbed to market demand and have actually been pushing for beading instead of sheeting.

I get my sheeting action from the Jeffs Trigger sealant. I use Collonite 845 or S100 for that extra wet look and depth. My synthetics are what protect my clear coat.
