M80 w/ PC for more than Swirls?

I have a scuff on my bumper that is more than a swirl and M80 did not seem to do the trick. What other products in the Meguiars polishing line should I use when more than just swirl removing is needed? My wifes car will have numerous spots where more than just swirl removing will be needed.

Thanks,
k

I just worked on a neighbor's car this weekend. He had a huge scuff mark with paint transfer on his plastic front bumper. After about 10 minutes of trying to remove the scuff with clay I went to M80 on a LC white pad. Ten minutes later I changed to M80 on an orange LC pad. Finally got the mark off. If I had some Prima Cut it probably would have gone faster, but the best I could do was change pads and machine speeds.
My point is that if you have the time and will-power, M80 will probably work though you may need to get a bit more aggressive with pad selection.

In the Meguiars line m83 would be the next step up. Go over it multiple times. You may have to follow with m80 if you see any hazing but not always.

I agree that M83 would be the next logical choice, but depending on the depth of the "scuff", it's very possible that you won't be able to do enough correction. It may improve it though. The next step up from there would be Prima Swirl and Orange pad or Prima Cut with the Orange or Yellow Pad. That would give you comparable results to what can be achieved with a rotary buffer though just a bit slower.

I am a complete newbie with the PC. I own and watched OctaineGuy's video and it gives a great jump start. Right now the only pads I have are W8006 and then my finishing pad for waxing (W9006).

So should I spend more time with M80 or get some M83? To compare the grits between the two what is M80 comparable to? X,000? for M80 and X,000? for M83?

Scratch/scuff removal techniques are a bit different than swirl removal. That is, you're focusing on one area, and trying to minimize it and make it less noticeable. Can you take any pictures and post them??

83 is about twice as aggressive as M80. That's about all you need to know.

M80 has an aggressiveness factor of 4 and M83 is 6, M84 which is what I use on the rotary is a 9.

Prima Cut is most similar to 84.

I once took out a paint transfer mark using only Meguiars Blue Clay. That is all it took. But sometimes those scuffs need work.

But I guess in the end they can mean the same thing, just be careful don't get them to confused.

You always wanna try the least aggressive approach first as Octane Guy mentioned, so starting with the clay may go a long way before you pick up the machine.

Wash
Clay
M80 with W - 8006 pad in Meguiars line
your choice of polish
your choice of wax

Using M80 will help in getting rid of swirls and hopefully that scuff you have. If it hasn't, your next choice as mentioned is to go more aggressive and use M83 and then step down to M80 and then continue on with your polish and wax.

Do you have any pictures you can post as requested already?
