Just back from my Pre MOTD Dragon Run! Saw this!

Was just describing to my passengers about trucks and the Dragon when we encountered this Monday a few hundred yards from the 'Crossroads of Time'. He was stuck by the car guard bar on the back, it dug into the tarmac. Two 'regular' tow trucks were there but couldn't get him out.

I had a family wedding in Atlanta this past weekend. And drove the folks down. So I made a road trip out of it and we did Fontana and the Dragon on the way back among other things. Got home late last night, for four days rest before heading back down again Mon or Tues. (In MINI this time!)

when are they going to ban those monsters from the Dragon?!!
Seriously, what trucker in his right mind wants to drive his rig on that road?!

Yeah, - given that the Dragon is an actual DESTINATION for thousands and thousands of sports cars and motorcycles, you'd think that they would impose limits on the size of vehicles allowed to drive on it.

Yep - driving a big rig on the Dragon is madness. Complete and utter madness.

Problem is, it *is* a US numbered highway - which at least "implies" that it's passable. And if the two points you're trying to get between happen to be close to the ends of the Dragon, it's way, way shorter than going around... So I think some clueless drivers fall prey to her siren song....

Should they ban traffic for more than three axles or something like that? Yeah, probably so.

A bit off-track but I am cruious what your travel time was between the Dragon and Atlanta. We're heading that way this summer.

Thanks!

It's about a 3.75 hour drive, 166 miles. There are some waterfalls worth stopping to see along the way.

Although big rigs on the dragon are a mistake - he also has his rear wheels moved far forward - which is what caused the tarmac scraping
