Pushed my MCS to the limit for the first time

Feel so good....

After passing 2k mile mark today, I push her hard for the first time.
3 runs from stand still, shift @ 6,400 rpm on 1, 2 and 3, DSC off.
So much fun...
I feel more pull than my previous mildly modified Integ GSR. (my 4drs GSR ran 14.9 sec @ 92.5, 0-60 @ 6.7 sec)
I just feel like I would be able to run 15 sec flat all day with this car (stock w/ JCW intake).
note: feel like.
I also drove pretty hard on 97 and 650, on my round trip to LDG this afternoon. I feel so much comfortable driving fast on the twisty road as well.
Can't wait for the JCW suspension upgraded next month.

Glad you're enjoying your car, hopefully as much as we all do~

BTW there's no limit to the MCS, now once you start modding your MCS, there's no cure and no end!

Yes, sooooo much fun.

My goal for the car is:

Make it a nice and clean looking, slightly lower for more aggressive look also with a decent handling, mid to high 14's on the strip, flat usable torque curve across the board for around town fun.
Not to be the fastest on the street, but just to be able to give someone a surprise. And still keep the factory warranty.

It will be one year project.

That makes me wondered why some magazines' post high 15's for track time and high 7's for 0 - 60.
I'm pretty sure it should be lower than that.

MCS 0 - 60 6.7
JCW 0 - 60 6.3

Thats pretty much consistent across most magazines.

The problem is one of perception. The car is very tiny. If you got a loud exhaust and then add the JCW whine over 4500, it makes it "sound" and "feel" like your going faster than you really are. If you had the same sounds in a larger car, you wouldn't have the same "feeling".

I dont know where your getting high 7s? I think MINI says 7.3 for the automatic and Edmunds is about the only mag that has numbers in the 7s.

BTW ... you haven't pushed it to the limit unless you were at 10/10s and felt the car pushing ... especially without changing the rear sway bar

Drive safe and have FUN!

These are what I recall,
Road & track magazine: 15.9 sec @ 89.3 mph, 0-60 @ 7.7 sec.
Car and Driver magazine: 15.5 sec @ 90 mph, 0-60 @ 7 sec.
Motortrend magazine: 15.4 sec @ 91.7 mph, 0-60 @ 7.2 sec.
and Automobile magazine: 15.3 sec @ 93 mph, 0-60 @ 6.7 sec.

Your numbers are far more accurate. I have tried 4 runs today, my average time is 6.7 sec. (launching @ 3k - 3.5k)
I might go to the track next Friday for couple of runs to try the track time. I believe I would be able to run a 15 flat or better. (due to cold weather )

+1 I was low 16 on my first run (ever,so I forgot to shut off ASC, car died in the first ten feet until I figured out what happened) Then a low 15 when it was 90+ and humid. I'm sure that it could easly do 15 flat in the hands of a good driver, and I'd expect it if I ever go back to the strip, however I'm partial to the road courses, loads more fun swinging around corners, toping out at 125+ and diving back down to second and geting back on the gas while you're being pushed side to side in the car.

I would love to try road course as well, may be start from next year.

Since the strip (Capital raceway) is not that far from my place, I just love to go there just to get the feel.
I love cars. Sometimes just to go there for couple of hours, is already a good feeling.

I like the strip cause its $10 and can function almost like a dyno its easy enough to be consistant, but I'm hoping I'll have the time to make a run for a comp. lisence in the next 2 years.

Remember, just because you rolled past the break-in number doesn't mean you should immediately redline the car. For the next 100 or so miles only go up to 5500, the next 100 or so 6500. Ease into the higher RPM range so you don't potentially cause any problems in the long run.

Question:

You stated that the DSC was turned off. What does it change when you turn it off? Is there a quicker response?

If your drive wheels start to slip, DSC will retard the throttle until they grip again, usually not what you were after.

DSC stands for Dynamic Stability Control. It is an electronic safety system that uses various sensors (wheel direction & speed, steering angle, yaw gyroscopics, etc) to ensure that you are actually moving in the direction that you intend to be driving (based upon steering angle). If there is a problem (because you are skidding or sliding out), the system can apply brakes at individual wheels to help correct your direction. It is truly an amazing system when you feel it kick in!

However, DSC also incorporates ASC+T as part of its function - this is a basic traction control system designed simply to prevent wheelspin at the driving wheels. If your driving wheels (front in a MINI, of course) are spinning too fast for your travel speed, the ASC+T system will reduce engine power or even apply brakes in order to stop the wheelspin. If you are deliberately trying to accelerate aggressively, this can be quite annoying because it feels like your engine is lugging. Many people turn off DSC in order to disable ASC+T when they are driving aggressively.

Unfortunately, there's no way in the MINI to disable ASC+T but leave the "extra" functions of DSC enabled. It's all or nothing! Also, while DSC is optional on all MINIs, ASC+T is standard on all MCSs - it can't be avoided!

So... to properly answer your question - no, DSC does not affect engine response - but it DOES allow your car to slip and slide if you want it to (and sometimes if you don't!).

I recommend leaving DSC on at all times, unless you are on a racetrack (where you want to powerslide, etc.) or you are driving in a deliberately aggressive manner and don't want the "nanny" interference. I especially recommend leaving DSC on in slippery weather (rain or slow).

Well according to their schedule it might be iffy right now. They are only open on Sunday's for Test and Tune and their schedule doesn't currently show racing this weekend.
http://capitolraceway.com/capitols_schedule.htm

I normally show up 30min before the gates are to open and then they open late. But I am usually one of the first to go and do a few runs before they are too busy.

So much fun today. Instead of ~15 miles back home from the garage. It took me more than 40miles on the back twisty road.

JCW suspension.....................installed
Madness rear sway bar....................installed
JCW strut tower brace....................installed

Feel a lot of improvement.........

Thank you LDG.

Next:

JCW exhaust.......................on the wait list.

JCW Brake kit......................on the wait list.

Which rims and tires are you using?

Lightweight is better. Stock rims are usually heavy.

Soft rubber for drag racing is good.

BF Goodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radial
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...irePageLocQty=

15x7 or 15x8 rims and 205/50-15 or 225/50-15
or
17x7 rims and 225/45-17 but it will likely rub due to suspension

This would be only for drag racing not for street use.

Talk to Alex@tirerack.com for some suggestions.

With JCW bits on the car except the bar I would think he wants more JCW.
