OK, I'm signed up with Sterling. Now, where can a fellow buy a helmet other than Pep boys? I wanna stick my noggin in my own, was never crazy about bowling alley shoes either. But not looking to go nuts on $$$. Just something basic and safe.

Check out Pete's Cycle 800 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park 410-647-5880

They have a good selection of SNELL with prices ranging from $175.00 to $1,000 +

Check out OG Racing. They have a pretty wide selection of helmets available complete with a wide selection of prices. I looked really quickly at their website and found they have an Open Face Snell 2005 helmet for $150. There is also a full face helmet for $250.

Oh yeah, anyone else just getting a busy signal when calling and trying to register?

For autocrossing I got mine from:
Coleman Powersports
435 S Washington St
Falls Church, VA 22046-4409
(703)237-3400
Internet Manager:
Kim Harrison

As stated make sure the helmet you pick out has a current SNELL rating. My openface hat we less than $90 two years ago. You may want to buy a dew rag, a cloth made to ware over your head. Think of it as a helmet scock. (and because today is intl pirate day 9.19.) A young swabbie you'll look like matie.

Need Helmets???

Have some friends that ordered the new FSA-1 from here only $199.

I've heard people talk about this place because of thier price but I don't personally know anyone who has bought from here....although I might just get one from here. lol Price range $35.00 - $60.00
(just check before you buy to verify thier approval rating - which most are Dot approved and many are both Snell and Dot approved)

Sheesh - buy one for $199 or rent one for $35? Seems an easy choice, unless you're planning on using the helmet often. It would take almost 6 rental fees to pay for the helmet!

Some people are planning on doing more than just this driving school. Some people really don't like the idea of a communal helmet (even if they are cleaned). Different stroke to different folk.

So, DOT is not ok? It has to be Snell rated?

wait. or is DOT ok?

What about ESE?
I'm just looking for a reason to buy this modular motorcycle helmet. But it's not DOT approved, even though ESE has stricter guidelines than DOT requires

I would get it in black of course.

Some schools, however, offer helmets free of charge for the daily use. One can always buy a cheap helmet sock for $5.00 or just bring a couple of Clorox wipes and wipe the loaner before using it.

If I had a motorcycle to use a helmet all the time I would save up for this one or this one.

Yes, I have to admit I have a thing for Carbon Fiber

I tried to find a price. I guess if you gotta ask, well ... there is no need to ask. That said I like the hat and if one needed to have it on for a long time something light would be nice.

Well, I'd like to do try some autocross too next year I think... And I've got one or two other eventual ideas/uses up my sleeve. I've also had trouble with getting rentals that fit comfortably. I expect to use it more as time goes on so I consider it an investment. And that was even before the Rolex Vintage Festival, though part of the reason I wanted to go.

They may 'clean' em, but if still can smell the previous users shampoo 'flavor' I have to question how well they're cleaned.

Serious drivers own their own helmets

Here's the latest in JCW helmets since OEM is your choice

Priced pretty cheaply ... albeit in the JCW shop clearance section.

I would not want this helmet in car.
In the unlikely event of a collision, your neck is going to go forward rapidly. I'd be concerned about that extended section hitting your chest.

Watch out, I heard (possibly from Diane, I don't remember exactly) that motorcycle helmets are not acceptable.

that's funny, she asked me if I was going to rent, and i said i had a motorcycle helmet. She said ok. she didn't seem to have a problem with it at all. Also, a motorcycle helmet is the same as a full face helmet anyway. No difference. It's what they use in racing. So I don't see any problems with it.

oh, and i'm signed up too.

A motorcycle helmet should be more than fine for this...don't see why it wouldn't be

Snell rated helmets sometimes have a sticker on the back that say SNELL. That sticker often comes off. The actual rating is inside the helmet under the padding, and it will not come off. If you can not find the sticker it is not SNELL rated.

I just called a couple minutes ago, according to her voicemail message she's out until tomorrow. I'm just not having any sort of luck getting registered.
