I'll be up for this IF no one will be allowed in the track sessions without a instructor. This is how it was run last year and made very good sense. If so I'm 100% in.

It sounds like that is how they are running it (and the way it should always be until you get a sign off). Unlike some other unnamed driving school I stopped by one day at Summit Point (just spectating, not participating), they had some beginners that were more dangerous to everyone else out on the track than themselves.
We are about a month away from the event and yet no reservations are being taken or did I miss something. I was at OG Racing today and they were a little suprised at this also.

A little birdie told me to expect the sign-up to be available next week.
First post is being updated with RSVP information. RSVP's will start on Tuesday, September 19 and close when Sterling has filled the 45 spaces. Please read the RSVP section carefully so you have all the information they need.
Post will also be updated with information about riders (non-drivers in the car) and helmet safety standards.
1) if you're not a member, can you sign up for both at the same time, or will you not show up on the DCMM official members list
2) logistically, can two people drive one car? my wife and I would both like to participate
Non members of DC Metro MINIs are not permitted to sign up for this event. It is a member's only event. You can join at www.dcmetrominis.org if you would like. But we need to restrict this to members only, as there are only 45 slots.

Thanks
I think maybe they were asking whether they could sign up for both the driving event AND the membership at the same time.
I believe the answer is No, please sign up for your membership first at http://dcmetrominis.org/?page_id=8 and then call MoS to sign up for the driving event.
What about this question - can two people share one car for this event? I'm sure it'll cut into driving time for each. Did anyone do this last year?
From what I remember of last year I don't think anyone had multiple drivers for one car. Your best bet on getting an answer on that is to call up on Tuesday and see if they have better information.
I know that other HPDEs allow multiple drivers on a car, but that doesn't mean that this one will.

Yes, I may have read that wrong. One could sign up for DCMM membership at our website. Once we have confirmation of payment, you could then call MOS and sign up for this event. We will add all new members to the list.

I'd agree with Matt. There was not anyone last year sharing a MINI. I think it could be done, but probably not within exercises. For example, one person could do skid pad, then switch and the next person does the braking. From what I remember there was not time to switch drivers during the various exercises. The line moves pretty fast. It might be possible to share track time too - we all got to go out twice. One person could go the first time, the next after.
But I would ask this question and be sure before you pay for both drivers. I really don't know.
Stop by one of the local dealers of helmets and get measured. They will be happy to help you.
I agree. Different companies use different sizing. Also the fit may be different. Some helmets have larger eyeports, such as a Bell. You really need to try them on before the day of the event.
Helmets: Participants are welcome to provide their own helmets provided they meet current standards. Most helmets over five years of age will not meet these standards and will not be allowed on the track. Helmets must also have no cracks, missing straps etc.
Someone may want to check what current standards mean. There are DOT standards and Snell standards. Typically driving schools only allow Snell ratings. Snell use M for motorcycle and SA for Special Applications. OG only has SA helmets. Since this is a pretty low key event, it may not matter but also may depend on their insurance. Also all schools that I attend are still accepting 10 year helmets until the end of October.

I believe that in any SCCA event you can use a SNELL 1995 or newer. Since the new Snell 2005 just came out at the beginning of 2006 a 2000 helmet still meet SCCA requirements
