It will be different from last year where the entire group was divided into three groups. This is a different format.
National Capital Chapter run 3 groups of 15. That is probably where they get the 45 from. Ideally each instructor has 2 students.
And it's braking, not breaking.

LOL, Marina... I wondered what your reaction to my tongue-in-cheek post was going to be.

ABSOLUTELY! And, just like I would do for my MINI (which I am always happy to let fellow DCMMers test-drive), we will have to ensure the engine is fully warmed up first. Have to see what idle-to-redline feels like! I LOVE the rush of my MINI, the lighter weight and extra 4hp will be only that much more exciting, I'm sure (especially since I probably have one of the heaviest MINIs out there).

Unless Mos is providing cars to drive then I am not cool with this part of the event:

"
MINI of Sterling has arranged this to be a team format. MINI owners must be willing to let other people in their team drive their MINI. Each team will have two (possibly three participants, still $125 per person) people per car + one professional driver. Everyone will get riding and driving time, as above."

It's not unusal for an instructor to demonstrate for a few laps, never at 10/10s. But another person? There must be a misunderstanding.

I always say, the best car to learn to drive is someone elses. :impatient

I agree... if indeed the expectation is to allow anyone else (other than the instructor) to drive your MINI on the track, I will not be participating. I know Mike quite well, and I'll be telling him this!

I don't mind letting my friends have a test drive on the road (with me in the passenger seat), but driving on the track, where you are deliberately pushing the limits, is another story. Besides, who is truly going to be able to get the best out of the experience if they have to be paranoid of damaging someone else's car?

I have passed this feedback already back to Mike. The first post is a direct cut and paste of information he sent to me. (so I do not take responsibility for spelling and other mistakes!) I am waiting for clarification from him and what they say about the format.

Not me either.

Dale and I may drive out to watch and take some pics possibly, but I won't be participating. I'm going to go for the tinting the day before anyway. Maybe next time...we'll see how this time works out for everyone. Besides I need new tires, my current ones would not pass the inspection, and I can't afford tires right now.

First post updated. Confusion at Sterling with Mike and he confirms format will be similar to last year -- as Matt outlined very well in his post. However, you must be willing to allow the INSTRUCTOR to drive your MINI.

I am so up for this. Does anyone know the Helmet rules? Is open face ok, are is closed face required (more likely but I would like to use my autocross hat)? I already got my dew rag (from the Dragon if I can find it).

If you already have an open face, I'm sure it's fine. I don't know of any schools that require one or the other. Depends on the insurance. Probably would need to be Snell M95 or SA95 at the minimum. Next year it should go to M2000 or SA2000. BSR's require any DOT-approved motorsports helmet. OG only has SA helmets. I guess wait for something official, but I think you are OK.

I hope Sterling is ready to take money this weekend. I'm bringing my checkbook to the breakfast and they better take my money because I want to make sure I have a spot.

My car will also have a couple (more) minor modifications before the event too.

I think you have me confused with someone else.
As of current I only have a pulley, intake, short shifter, and sway bar.
While technically the roof graphic and wheels could be considered mods they aren't what I was referring to.
Oh yeah, I bought an Alta antenna at MOTD2006 too.

I have what could be referred to as IMS, Intelligent Mod Syndrome .

I've actually had the pulley, intake, and short shifter for a while now. Had them all put in at once back when the pulley special was announced. The swaybar went in a month or so ago. The new thing(s) are happening next week.

Hey sally, you can ride down with me if you want if you don't have ur jcw yet that is.

as far as helmets go, is it ok for the helmet to have a few scratches?

Scratches, scuffs are fine. Cracks would be a no no.
